hi everyone

sorry if this has been posted before. i searched around and all i found was old posts and not bluray. i have a Lite-On ATAPI iHBS212 with the latest firmware. Recently i have been getting this message appear while burning a bd. there are three things i think may be causing this. 1 i cleaned out my cpu tower and there was a lot of dust and stuff which i cleaned out and i may have by accident sprayed the dust away on part of the bd drive im having trouble with. 2nd is my friend suggested me to use ccleaner to remove registry entries that were taking up useless space. and 3 is the drive may be just at the end of its lifecycle. i use a lens cleaner after getting the message below. after using the lens cleaner it burnt without that message appearing. I am using Verbatim bd-r dl 4x. i choose 4x cause that's basically the only speed i find at a decent price for this brand on ebay.

EDIT: i just thought of something. could it be the discs i wanna burn on my hdd could that hdd be becoming bad? ive been using one drive for tons of discs and have had it for a few years now and constantly deleteing stuff off it.

here is my logfile:

Your drive appears unable to re-initialise the disc it just burnt... so either it's just really bad at reading (where you then get this issue with almost all discs) or it did a really bad job of burning the 'VERBAT-IMd-000' disc you used.

If it's been ok with them in the past, trying discs from another spindle or cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc may help.

You may still end up buying a new drive though.

hi

ive been getting this message with every bd i try to burn recently. i tried a cleaning disc from maxell. i ran it two separate times. i am going to try a 25gb verbatim and see if it works. but now i have a new problem. i just tried burning a bd on my other disc drive "HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH10LS30" and it gave a error message. i was burning a bd25 and i updated the firmware earlier today. before i updated the firmware on it i tried burning the same bd25 and it hung on verifying it. it wouldn't go past 0% in verfirying it. my only 2 guesses at this point why im having all these troubles with these drives is that either i scratched the lens or messed them up somehow when i was cleaning inside the computer tower with dust away or the hdd's my backups are on are failing. heres the log tht i got just now for the 2nd bd drive that i tried burning a bd25. this is the drive i just updated the firmware on.

update to my situation. i burnt another bd50 on the drive that was causing the original problem and it showed the same message. however i burnt two bd25's without any problem messages on that same drive today. so i guess it is a bad last batch at the end of the spindle. its a spindle of 50 verbatim bd50gb. im gonna have to seek verbatim taiyo yuden's next time to avoid a bad batch. so any further help to my situation to both drives? i found a good drive i wanna buy but i was wondering whats the problem with the drive that says

that was my drive that i updated firmware to today...do you think that maybe the reason why? i burnt a dvd using a different program and it seemed to burn ok on this drive. it was a verbatim btw

hi

crap. i don't know what else was running that would do that. i mean i always try to make sure nothing's running before burning. and i don't surf the net while its burning either.

the hdd that disc comes from is my backup drive for bds. are you saying that drive is failing? if not anything i can do to get it to work better? iike i said i burnt two bd25s earlier that were off that drive and no buffering messages appeared. however like i said it only seems to show the buffering message on the drive i updated the firmware to.

the two bd drives are both internal. the hdd with the bds stored on them is internal. i tried the buffer increase to 256mb on my bd drive that i updated the firmware to and it burnt successfully without a buffer error. i burnt a bd50gb from my other hdd that has bds stored on it and it burnt fine with the blu burner ATAPI iHBS212   2 HL05 (the drive that i first reported having troubles with). with that same drive i was able to burn a bd25 earlier that was on the hdd that is full of bds stored on it. could a hdd that is going bad cause bad bluray burns? i know its sounding confusing but if you have any other advice id love to hear it. im out of bd50's now and i only have bd25's. but i don't have any bd25 backups right now that i can burn. im planning on buying some more bd50 blanks and a new burner sometime this week...

P.S. Are the taiyo yuden bd-r dl's sold on ebay from japan good? i wasn't sure cause i thought the one that verbatim users recommend has verbatim in the name with taiyo yuden. im confused. can someone tell me the right brand to look for that is the best for bd-r dl's?

hey lightning uk

could you tell me if a hdd that is going bad cause bad bluray burns? i ran a scan (using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows) on the drive i use most for bd backups and it passed both tests. nothing seems to be wrong with it according to it. that drive is a internal hdd.

my second question is what exact brand of taiyo yuden bd-r dl's do you recommend? i usually get my bd blanks off ebay and have seen them there. usually i just get the Verbatim brand.

thanks in advance.

hey lightning uk

got a new burner and it seems to be working good. its a LG WH14NS40. i noticed however on the last few burns i made that there is 2 inner circles on the data surface. there werent there before burning the disc. i still have to watch those discs to check they work ok but i wasn't sure if they would degrade over time because of those marks. the blanks im using are Verbatim Mitsubishi Kagaku Media BD-R DL from Japan. I didn't know where else to ask this. if this isnt the right place to ask this can you please suggest where it would be appropriate. Thanks in advance.
