clone a secondary hard drive

Recommended Posts

Can you direct me in how to clone a secondary hard drive in my desktop (windows) computer.  I have two hard drives, one is the system drive and one is for storage.  I would like to clone the storage drive to a new hard drive.

I don't think ImgBurn is exactly what you're looking for.  "Cloning" a hard drive is a specific operation where you make a backup image of the source drive sector by sector and restore that image to a new location.  ImgBurn doesn't do that.  It's more of a file backup operation, which some cloning software does.  So, ImgBurn won't do precisely what you want.  However, you can use it to backup things like My Documents or other user data and restore those files from optical disc, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

My application for cloning hard disks is called Macrium Reflect.

Can't be done with imgburn, that's a task for specialist software like acronis true image or macrium reflect

Thanks a bunch guys.  I thought as much; I just thought I would check with the forum just to make sure, since I already have it installed on my computer.

If it's just data, I would connect the new drive and just do Ctrl+A (select all), Ctrl+C (copy) and Ctrl+V (paste) to new drive, disconnect the old drive, that's it.

Which won't work here. At least not with the boot drive. This approach would copy the files of the C drive, but not all of them (protected system files and permission) and it certainly wouldn't copy of hidden system partitions

Yes, I know and that requires specialist software. Ctrl+c and ctrl+v isn't a clone

@Ch3vr0n

Usually new members don't know what the really want, that's why they ask on forums. Also, they may not know how to ask for what they want.

That's why I started my reply with: If it's just data, ...

Since it not chimed in after my reply it seams that your suggestion helped him to solve his problem.

So... that's it. Problem solved. For me, too.
