Not sure if this is a BUG per se, but I'm using 64-bit Win7 and I've got a Hitachi Life Studio backup hard drive attached. Whenever I put a blank CD/DVD in the CD drive it tells me it's not empty, I check to see why and always it's because its selected the Hitachi Life Studio and not the DVD drive to burn to. Not calling this a real BUG per se, just wondering what would happen if anyone had a blank hard drive attached and Imgburn chose it and tried to burn a disk image onto it, the person not stopping it because they hadn't realised what Imgburn was trying to do. Would it corrupt the hard drive? I mean it couldn't burn anything TO it because there's not a burner IN a hard drive, but what would it DO to the drive? OK, I know that the above scenario's a tad unlikely, but just wondering out of (slightly macabre!) interest.... Great program, though. And love all the little statements it comes up with, the dry drollery of it all. That's always been a lovely touch. Yours respectfully Chris. This was the first time I tried to use it in Win7, so I thought if I just chose the right drive for it, it would happily burn to the DVD drive, not the Hitachi Life Studio drive. It won't. No matter how many times I choose the DVD drive for it, it flicks straight back to the Hitachi Life Studio drive, tells me it's not empty (too right it's not!) and won't burn anything. If I detach the Hitachi Life Studio, presumably because it's convinced itself that's a CD drive now, it tells me to attach a CD drive and STILL won't burn anything. AARGHHH!!!! How do I convince it firstly yes, I do have a CD drive. Secondly, it is Drive D, not Drive F. And thirdly, if Drive F, the Hitachi, is disconnected, I STILL have a CD drive, Drive D? Worked fine in my old Windows XP, your program. I'm going to try uninstalling it/reinstalling it WITHOUT the Hitachi attached and see if that makes any difference. I think the bug, if it IS one, is that you don't seem to be able to select which drive you want to burn to and make it STAY selected while it does its thing, it seems to want to always revert back to its own choice. Posted November 25, 2020 Share Posted November 25, 2020 I have no idea what the device actually is, but something about it must be presenting itself as a cd/dvd drive for it to become visible in ImgBurn. It's not going to harm the actual hard drive part of the device. It could just be that it's emulating one (a cd/dvd drive) in order to provide you with something to install some software from. I've seen devices do that before. So maybe it gives you d: or e: in order to access the hard drive data and then gives you f: to install some software from. Load the program up with the device unplugged from your system and copy + paste everything from the log window please. Then close the program, attach the device and do the same thing again please.
