write errors after 15+ successful burns. i/o error

Why do I keep getting write errors? I've been ok on 15 or so burns and now I always get i/o errors. I switched to a quality media. It seems like it started after my recent update. Another error message is system memory is full or invalid address to write. What does it all mean? I have an lg burner, external and got it in July 2006. Any help would be great. Thanks. Here is a log. (!)

I 18:15:05 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: CMC MAG-M01-00) (Speeds: 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x)

we see this all the time with CMC MAG dye they're not very good discs and while you had 15+good burns the next 15 can be bad with that media .We here only reccommend Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs its all I use and havent had a bad burn in a long time a couple of years at least .You can go to www.digitalfaq.com they have ratings for different media ,its not the brand that counts but who makes the dye on the discs

Yep, this time its bad media. CMC MAG is the worst dye type out there. Verbatims (DataLifePlus) and Taiyo Yudens are the ones that give the most consistent results. And, because the drive is USB, you should be burning at 4x max, which you are doing. Any faster, and you will probably suffer from buffer underruns and get a bad burn.

Jason: You're both right and wrong. :) You're right about the media. It really is garbage.

Buffer underruns used to be a problem back in the bad old days but not anymore if you have BURNPROOF enabled. Before the advent of Burnproof (deleloped by Sanyo), drives starved of data would continue writing zeros onto your blank disk effectively making it useless. Burnproof allows the drive to pause while it waits for more data to burn, regardless of how long it has to wait.

I got this error with both memorex and Verbatum discs. Now I'm worried it's my LG writer. Is there any way to test the drive? Is it true that if it plays it will write?

whats the name of a good dye that would appear in the log? CMC MAG, etc. :o

Thanks. :o

I suspect the drive. I have just replaced a LG GSA4167 for the same reasons with a PIO111D. I use only Verbatim 16x and with the LG every other disc failed.

No probs with the new PIO. And never LG again.

?

Disc ID: MCC-004-00 these are Verbatim +R discs 16X

Manufacturer ID: MCC 03RG20 these are Verbatim -R discs 16X

DVD-R (Disc ID: TYG03) these are Taiyo Yuden 16X

these are the best so if you are going to buy media Verbatim + or - available in stores and Taiyo Yuden available online www.newegg.com and www.meritline.com in thre US

I also have an LG GSA 4167, but, I must admit, I have never burned a Verbatim with it yet. I have done some burns at 8x on some CMC MAG's that my brother provided. He wanted to copy some movies from a friend. I am just lucky those discs weren't for me :). Another use for CMC MAG's, burn them and give them to your (younger) brother to use.
