How to burn directly from NAS ?

Hi,

I have to burn a few images from a Network Attached Storage (NAS) directly to a clients PC DVD-Burner (Plextor 760). What are the best settings ? It is a Wired-GBit-LAN...I'm wondering because i got a warning-message at 16:59:45 Waiting for buffers to recover while it's burning...I guess the burn had been paused due to filling buffers, is there a setting that ImgBurn fills the buffers while they are clearing ? I set the buffers to 256 MB to avoid something like that...hope you could help me setting ImgBurn so that there is no break while it burns...

I just use default setting across my network and when i used 10/100 I could burn at 8X over network, I choose 6X most of the time as my MAX, as 8X was maybe stretching it just a little.

However when I upgraded to 10/100/1000 I can if I so want to, easily burn at 16x and have done so numerous occassions without the warning your getting in log file.

Only thing different is I never alter any settings.

The PX-760 firmware is up to v1.10 now isn't it? You should update it.

Are you just burning 1 image at a time? Is the NAS box doing anything else whilst you're burning?

Even a 100mbit network would manage 4x without a problem - possibly even 8x. So for a 1gbit network to be that slow, something else must be bogging it down.

Firmware is 1.04

I just found 1.06 here

Where do I get the 1.10 ?

The NAS box is doing nothing at the time I burn one image.

The highest I've seen in ImgBurn was something like under 7000 kb/s, the maximum with a normal file-transfer is 1000 to 2000 kb/s higher.

Sorry, I lied, 1.10 is for the 716.

You just need the 1.06 version.

On a gigabit lan you should be getting at least 20mb/s upwards (I get about 45mb/s I think). It does vary a little bit depending on the speed of your machine though.

So if you max out at ~10mb/s, You can't be running 1gbit right to the desktops.

and I lied about the NAS, it's a 100MBit-NAS, but other comp has a gbit-nic :innocent:

I'll upgrade the device and try again...

any ideas why the buffer is not being filled continuously ? Does it have to do with the burning-device or software-settings ?

It will then negotiate down to the lowest speed of hardware connected to the gigabit nic in your case a 10/100.

You should still be able to easily burn at 4X over network though.

Maybe look in the properties of the NIC's and if you have an option (will be in gigabit one more than likely) to optimise for CPU or Throughput, CHOOSE throughput.
