Teddy, Your burner appears to be writing all right just can't read back what it just wrote. Maybe your burner is dying or else it just like that type of media. Can you try getting a couple of +R discs and try those ?

Pioneer, Samsung, Lite-On, LG, Plextor....light scribe is really just eye candy and the fun wears off quickly IMHO, I'm a sucker for gadgets and it only took my about 3 LS covers to make up my mind.

I just tried another burn, because I have to get these images off my hard drive, and this one worked completely, is something noticeably different?

It actually wrote at 6x, rather than the 8x you've selected. Some drives do this when they detect poor media quality.

Why would it be poor media? I was told Verbatim are the best next to Taiyo Yuden? Should I get TY next time? I looked at their site but it didn't seem like they did online orders so where would I get them?

Also, because it worked at a slower speed I tried burning at 5x, but it appears to have burned at 6x anyway, and it failed.

Your discs should be fine. I personally prefer the DVD+R's from Verbatim to their DVD-R ones. I prefer the DVD-R Taiyo Yudens to the DVD+R ones though, so it all works out ok in the end!

Try giving your drive a clean with a lens cleaner. If it can't burn decent media properly, it's probably on it's way to the drive retirement home in the sky.

How old is the drive...how many good burns have you got out of it? Nothing lasts forever.... if you were happy with the drive up to now and have had a good time with it in the past don't hesitate to get another one.

I have a really dumb q...

I thought I was back in business w/burning, b/c I was able to burn an ISO file I had saved on my computer--the disk came out fine. However, now I'm trying to burn another movie. It writes it to the HD as an ISO file, but when I try to write it to a blank disc, my problems begin. First, at 100%, it spits the dvd I'm burning out. Then it says the device is not ready. What am I supposed to do at this point? Do I put the dvd I'm burning to back in? If I do, I receive an I/O error just like Teddy's. But, once I tried putting the orginal dvd (the one I'm burning) in when it reach 100%, and did not get an I/O error--the process continued (although I'm not sure what it was doing). Either way, the dvd I thought would now contain the movie is still blank. I'm trying it again right now...

Thanks for any help you can give me!

@teddy

I've been fortunate to have my NEC and BenQ for around 3 years with around 1000 burns each on them and they are still going strong. I know a lot of Litey owners who have had their drives for a long time and are still using them as well...could be you just got a bad drive.

@vegas

Post a log please.

Have NO idea what this all means. It will write the original disk, and once again when I insert the blank disk, it reaches 100%, then ejects it. I get this I/O error when I reinsert the disk I'm trying to write to:

DVD-R (Disc ID: ProdiscF02)

You are using bunk discs...I would suggest some nice Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens.

Image File Size: 4,681,455,616 bytes

You are trying to put to much onto the disc...reduce your target size to 4400.

W 01:26:15 Waiting for buffers to recover...

W 01:26:36 Waiting for hard disk activity to reach threshold level...

Ease up on the multitasking too...

hey, I am having a very similar problem.

Here's the situation:

I have a series of tv shows on 3 dvds. last night, i used dvdshrink, made 2 iso's of the first disc, opted to go for the second i made, burned it this morning, no problems. I used dvd shirnk on the second 2 discs. I go to burn them, what do you know, the first disc, 33% into verifying it, it gives a I/O error, logical units time out. So I ignore it, go on to the third disc, burns fine, verifying, fails at 66%, same error.

excerpt from log:

W 02:01:01 Failed to read Sector 1481456 - Timeout on Logical Unit

W 02:01:02 Sector 1481456 maps to File: VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB

E 02:01:53 Failed to read Sector 1481457 - No Seek Complete

E 02:01:53 Sector 1481457 maps to File: VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB

E 02:01:53 Failed to Verify Sectors!

E 02:01:54 Operation Failed! - Duration: 00:13:57

I 02:01:54 Average Verify Rate: 3,539 KB/s (2.6x) - Maximum Verify Rate: 13,464 KB/s (9.7x)

so now what do i do. I've done 20ish burns, the computers 5 months old, quirky, but works well

windows xp sp4 i believe.

any ideas?

lemme know if you need more info. I can get a lot, as the error seems extremely repeatable.

i should mention, i forced it to quit verifying, popped the disc out, put it back in, ran imgburn in verify mode, same thing, same place.

Thanks in advance

p.s.

other than this, I love ImgBurn
