Pioneer Device, Verbatims, Reformated Computer, still problems!!

Okay well after having many problems backing up my dvds and using the advice given from you guys on this site, I replaced my burner with a Pioneer 112D drive and purchased two 20 packs of Verbatim DVD+R DL's (as some of you may already know). Everything was working fine until one day everything just went to sh** (which is the exact same thing that happened with my last burner/media combination >_<). I burned a good 8 back-ups before I started receiving the error messages. Some of them are mid-burn, others are during finalization or verification. I've wasted 6 or 7 Verbatims trying to fix this problem, which I am not so happy about . What is going on?! I even reformated my computer to make sure it wasn't because of some sort of virus or bug. Here is the log from my last burn:

Please help guys, I can't afford to waste anymore discs..

btw, the decrypter I am using is the most up to date free DVDFab HD Decrypter. could the problem possibly be with that?

I looked at your past posts and gathered your computer is 3 years old

is your burner on an 80 conductor cable at the end jumpered master or like a lot of dell's cable select?

disconnect any other drive on the cable, use a new good cable

use sl disks to test with, burn at max speed and verify

everything is good and clean inside, all fans including power supply?

Actually I just counted the wires on the conductor cable and it turns out its a 40, not an 80. Would that be the problem? Is my burner permanently damaged from using the 40?

no damage done, except maybe to your wallet, get an 80 conductor cable, put the pioneer at the end of it, jumper it master, and make sure any other optical drive is disconnected and make sure that your computer will burn single layer disks at max

make sure dma is enabled in bios and device manager after changing the cable

let's try to dot every i and cross every t

Thanks for the help chewy. So how would I go about doing the above? Sorry but my knowledge of things of this sort is limited. Running to the store to pick up the cable now..

I bought the 80 conductor cable, plugged it into the master drive only (my dvd+-rw), enabled DMA on that drive and everythings working great again . Thanks chewy! Btw, what does DMA mean anyways? Also, I too am curious as to why I should only have the ribbon plugged into one drive.

when there might be 2 or three things going wrong, it's best to eliminate all of them and go for an optimal configuration, I suspect the power supply is getting weak

especially when testing with expensive dual layer media

once you get everything working you can rehook the other drive in the middle position as slave and retest

personnally I would be looking for a new power supply, it's one of the first things to upgrade on a computer

dma is just a mode where windows uses the southbridge chipset to handle Input/Output to and from the drive vs slower pio mode where the cpu does the work
