Hello. I´ve read a bit on this forum and have seen topics like this but have to ask.

My burnes failes @ 51% everytime. I just bought this burner (samsung SH-S203B SATA) and the firmware seems to be the latest. And I use Vebatim DVD+DL.

Anyways would really be glad if you cold help me out.

select 2.4x a s your write speed.

Which sata controller is on you mobo. Which ever it is see if there is an update to it. Or if your using jmicron switch it to the other sata ports on your mobo.

Make sure hard drive where ISO is located is free from errors by using scandisc.

Make sure you PSU is upto the job less than 20-26 amp on the 12v line can cause problems depending on how much hardware you got in machine and at least 500w. A 500w psu is low in todays standards so might be worth getting 650w or higher but look at 12v line for ampage above 26.

If still no good after switching sata ports look in bios and see how SATA is assigned I like to sert mine to IDE mode less problems that way

Hey. Thanks fore the reply.

I don´t really understand what you mean but I´m going to try to check.

How do I check 20-26 amp thing? I have a 500w psu and 2 harddrives and one dvd-burner.

When you say swith SATA ports, do you mean just swap them around? I only have 3 I think.

A have this moderbord: Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2H

Thanks.

The PSU normally has a sticker on it with the Voltages.

Your board is Using ICH 9 so Check for updated Intel Chipset drivers.

In your BIOS see if you have SATA Set to AHCI mode If so then change it to IDE mode

Also look for any other setting for SATA eg SATA1 or SATA 2 set to SATA 1 if you can.

See if that makes a difference.

You could also see if there is a new bios for your motherboard it might make a difference.

Could turn out to be a dodgy batch of verbs or something wrong with the writer but it's a case of having to try a few different things to track down error.

Might be a poor drive with problematic firmware. Am sure the author of the program has this drive he might be able to tell you a bit more about the drive.

South Bridge:

- 1 x floppy disk drive connector via the I/O controller supporting up to 1 floppy disk drive

- 3 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (SATAII0, SATAII1, SATAII2) supporting up to 3 SATA 3Gb/s devices

- 1 x eSATA 3Gb/s port on the back panel supporting up to 1 SATA 3Gb/s device

JMicron 368 chip:

- 1 x IDE connector supporting ATA-133/100/66/33 and up to 2 IDE devices

no jmicron driver listed but I didn't know they made just an ide chip, has esata also so I would suspect that one of the sata's is controlled by the jmicron

device manager should give a clue

I tried one the other day at 2.4x too and it errored out around the same place yours did.

... (some time passes whilst I burn + scan)

Hmmm.... not really overly impressed with 2.4x DL burning on this thing, 4x seems ok though!

1st Burn - 2.4x - Scanned in a Samsung S203B

Yeah give 4x a go on the Verbatim discs and see how you go.

As you can see, you can make 'Nero DiscSpeed' (new name for CD-DVDSpeed as part of Nero 8) scan discs in the Samsung drive (just need a tiny registry edit) and then you can make pretty pictures like those shown above :)

You should give it a try - even if it does error out, it might tell you how bad the burn was up until that point.

Jmicron make the SATA/IDE chipsets that are very common on modern motherboards (to give you additional SATA/IDE ports). They're not as reliable as the proper ones that are part of the southbridge and should be avoided where possible.

Ahh ok, I think I start to get the hang of things. Thanks.

well the jmicron 368 only does the pata port

I saw that to. If Jmicron is´nt that good mybe thats why my computer has sutch a hard time detecting my sekundery

harddrive. (Diffrent story)

The reason that a bought a SATA burner in the first place is that I was unable to burn using my old IDE-burner on my new G33 MB.

I´ve at least learn something today. Thanks guys.

I´m going to try the "Nero diskspeed" to night. Do I put a coaster in or a blank dvd?

lol a coaster - although normally you'd be scanning a successful burn ;)

This is the key you need to edit to make it work with samsung drives....

Navigate to the following in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nero\Nero8\Nero Toolkit\DiscSpeed\CD Quality

Then find the 'Blocked' item in the right panel, edit it and remove 'TSST'. (i.e. so it just says 'SAMSUNG,HL-DT-ST,PLEXTOR')

actually you just need to run latest version and exit and it sets up reg keys. for some reason when I tried that first it did not set up reg automatically. Might be something to do with spybot latest beta running on comp I first tried it on.

The version of nero 8 I have has no blocked drives in list so here is a smaller version of reg file which just writes key to

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nero\Nero8\Nero Toolkit\DiscSpeed\CD Quality] sub key only

no_block_2.reg
