Just a simple thing, really. Are there practical reasons to use ImgBurn instead of Nero

I have worked with both Nero and Roxio. I don't know why but there are certain media that those programs do not like, so much so that they ruin the disk before throwing some cryptic error message. A friend recommended ImgBurn and by gum, it recorded on the same media without complaint. This was a nice bonus because I had the better part of three spools that the others had rejected. I had just about convinced myself that I was somehow unlucky enough to simply keep buying out of bad batches and the disks themselves were to blame. But there is something, whatever it is, that ImgBurn does that the others do not.

As well, I do not want all the bundled applications that have made Roxio and Nero unwieldy for me. If I want to edit sound, I use Audacity. Photos -- Paint.Net. Video, usually VirtualDub although that's not a complete solution by any means for video disk creation. My point is really that instead of being satisfied with a bunch of apps thrown together to bundle with a disk burner, I find better results by getting apps that specialize in the particular task.

And man, does ImgBurn ever specialize in burning disks! Knocks my socks off.

CD audio support, DVD compilation support.. etc etc

Depends on what features you use in Nero. I use a lot and Imgburn simply hasn't got all the features that nero has. I need both. Having said that Nero has become bloated but if ytou use Nero Lite then it becomes usefill again.

I was an original DVD Decrypter user as well and like most think it was a great program! Things have never been really the same since then. e.g Decrypter was the no1 ripping burning software and I'd use it almost exclusively. Now though I tend to use Nero and Alcohol... but keeping Imgburn as a backup.

Although I've got to be honest I hate "Wizard" type stuff and feel the "EZ Mode" was a step backwards, aimed people with no idea of what they are doing anyway.

Ez Mode picker is not a wizard.

It simply provides an easier/quicker way of selecting the 'mode' you want when the program starts and potentially saves you having to wait for the disc to be initialised before you can then change to the correct mode (assuming it started in the wrong one).

If you don't like it, change the options so it doesn't appear.

You don't ever need to use EZ Picker mode - it's there for the noobs. Just use the keyboard shortcuts to get to the relevant mode you want.

And of course ImgBurn can't make your drive run faster. That's between it, its firmware and the media (and whatever else you might be doing on your PC at the time).
