Hi to all, first post and recently new to Imageburn.

I'm trying to burn an iso image. My media is as shown. when I put media in image burn it tells me in the screen to the right where Information is given that I have 4.706 of free space.

 

When I select the iso image to burn these are the figures it's then givinig me:

Image size ( 4,531 mb )

Disc size ( 4,489 mb )

 

So I'm unable to burn the project. Why is it telling me disc size is 4,489 mb and yet in my mind I have enough space to accomadate this.

Have included a log file which I then had to cancel.

can try and get some screen shots of the errors that are showning when it's unable to burn the image if needed.

Thanks for any advice.

The picture is a little small but it looks like the file size is 4531mb...and the log clearly states the file size.

You need to compress your file a tad, set your output size to 4400 mb.

Not a part of your problem, but I'd get some decent media such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

This is what confused me as I could see file size is 4531mb so I thought I would have no problem with the media as I had plenty of space ( 4.706mb )

 

I can see from the log it needs to compress a tadd. Can I do this from within imageburn?

Nowhere does it say 4706 mb.

 

You don't divide by 1000 to go to the next unit, you use 1024. (Manufactuers use 1000 on the disc packaging though, that's why they list them as 4.7GB)

 

So it's:

 

2,297,888 Sectors

 

= 4706074624 Bytes

 

= 4595776 KB

 

= 4488.0625 MB

 

= 4.38287353515625 GB

Thanks for that was very usefull, just assumed what the manufactured discs were telling me.

 

From my first screen shot,and apologies for it being small but it does state.. free space on the disc as ( 4,707,319 ) in the information panel to the right about midway.

 

As I said first time here so maybe some confusion on my part.

as broken down by LUK...

 

= 4706074624 Bytes

 

= 4595776 KB

 

= 4488.0625 MB <-- being less than 4531 MB and hence too small.

 

= 4.38287353515625 GB

 

You also have to take into consideration the format of the DVD...+R vs. -R

 

DVD-R/DVD-RW = 4 706 074 624 bytes ( 4488 MB )

DVD+R/DVD+RW = 4 700 372 992 bytes ( 4482 MB )

 

you get 6 extra MB's with -R media, what a bonus.

You're missing off 3 significant digits if that's in byes.

 

Even if it's in KB, as you can see a disc only has room for 4,595,776 KB, not 4,707,319 KB.

 

You've got to compare like for like with these things and get the whole idea of dividing by 1000 out of your head - that's not how the computer world works.

Thanks to you both, glad I asked learnt something today.

 

Bit of a silly question.. so does ( 2,297,888 Sectors ) have anything to do with the calculations!

 

I know there are 8bits to a byte and now know there are 1024 bytes to a kb and not 1000 as I had believed.

Not sure if the sectors had any bearing on the byte/kb/mb/gb output? :rolleyes:

Discs are based around sectors - ie. there are a set number of them available on the disc to which you can write data.

 

A sector is 2048 bytes (for DVDs, HD DVD, Blu-ray).

 

So calculations are based around the idea of 'number of sectors * 2048 = size in bytes'.
