blank disc after burning?

G' Evening Forum,

 

I have a problem i'm hoping someone will have the answer to.

 

I used image burn to take an image file off my pc and burn it to disc. yet when i try to play it in my stand alone dvd player, i get a message saying " No audio data, No image data. So its blank? Yet image burn says the project completed successfully and it "verified".

 

I've been looking on this forum and elsewhere trying to find the actual problem to no avail yet.

 

Some info on my system

 

Incase it matters my OS is XP pro.

 

My external burner is PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D 1.06

 

The discs i'm trying to burn are

DVD+R

 

SONY-D21-00 ( i know this site recommends verbatim, yet i've heard elsewhere these discs are good quality? But i don't know myself.)

 

And my stand alone dvd player is a Sony that claims to be able to play dvd + r's.

 

 

So any ideas? Maybe i have a setting in image burn wrong? Maybe i am using the wrong type of disc (but shouldn't a sony be compatible with a sony)?

 

Like i mentioned at the start, image burn seems to completes the task with no problems, yet my stand alone player does not recognize any data on it.

 

Any advice you guys can give would be appreciated!!

Also put the disc that your standalone claims is blank, but that Imgburn verified back in your burner and fire up Imgburn in Read or Write mode and copy/paste all the information contained there in this thread.

Hi and welcome to the forum, bearsfan!

 

Have you tried to play the disc in you computer to see if it can be played there? If it can be played there - it sounds as you player don't like burned discs. You could also try the disc in another stand alone player.

 

Sometimes bitsetting can solve playback problems in stand alone players.

I'm not sure how that is done? I'm pretty much a noob to burning. If you can tell me how to access that setting that would be great.

Deffo start with the firmware update - they're VERY important.

 

You might have more luck if you burn at a speed closer to the one the media is rated at.

 

8x or 12x really.

 

8x on 8x media is normally fine.

I tend to use 8x or 12x on 16x media - but every drive / media id is different.

 

The burn went fine and the verify proves your pc drive can read it ok. As such, playback on the PC should work fine. Your standalone might just be fussy - or require bitsetting as mentioned earlier. Problem is, Pioneers don't support that by default on DVD+R media, only DVD+R DL. You'll have to patch the firmware to make it work.

I was under the impression the slower the write speed i used to better chance of compatibility with other players. Which is why i selected 2.4 , 3, ect.

 

But i got the 1.29 firmware update and installed and i'm gonna try this higher setting (8x) and see if that remedies my problem.

 

Until it works I've basically got about 45 more "coasters" i can waste so i've got some room for trial and error.

 

About this patch you mentioned? Is that another download and install? Any idea where i can find it? Assuming the firmware update and speed setting don't fix it, cause if they do i'm just gonna leave it alone. I'd perfer not to fix something that ain't broken.

Went to the site, Had to "download search" for 8.29. When i found it, i clicked on the link and it took me to a page in another language.. Chinese? Anyway, does anyone know where i can find v8.29 for my pioneer dvr-111d ? Preferably in english so i know what I'm getting.

Being dim here, probably, but I downloaded the 1.09 firmware from the Pioneer website and unzipped it. That gave me a pdf file and an exe. MCSE doesn't like the pdf as "the non-exe one" and says that the exe (DVR116D_FW109EU2.EXE) is a RAR archive and doesn't want to even load it as is.

 

Double-clicking on the exe RAN the firmware upgrade to 1.09. Which is nice, as they say, but I don't see the two files mentioned that can be loaded into MCSE to enable bitsetting? ( I have a Pioneer DVR-116D and want to burn single layer Video ISOs that will run on an Xbox as a DVD player. It seems I need the bitsetting capability to fool the disk into pretending to be a DVD-ROM for the Xbox.)

 

Do I need to further unpack the exe before loading into MCSE? How then do I run it after the hack's been applied?

When you run the exe that's on firmwarehq you get 2 files in the 'C:\DVR116D\FW109EU' folder.

 

The one to load is the 'A0815001.109' one.

OK, the firmwarehq and Pioneer website files appear to be, and behave, identically for me. That is, both unpack and automatically RUN the firmware upgrade to 1.09.

 

Nevertheless, I have found and patched the unpacked file as you describe. However, as it also automatically RAN the upgrade to 1.09 in the first place, as I mentioned earlier, it's telling me - correctly - that I already HAVE the latest firmware version, and refuses to proceed any further. And, as the Pioneer site tells me I cannot revert to 1.06, does that mean I am now b*ggered for applying the MCSE patched version of 109?

 

And, assuming I can, how do I apply the patched version? Do I rename A0815001_speedpatched.109 back to A0815001.109 and then run R116D.exe?

Try using DVRFlash to flash it instead of the Pioneer flasher.
