Double layer dvd

When IMG burn asks to create layer break position what do I select? I pressed cancel which I probably shouldn't have done because then I got an error message saying the burn didn't work. I think it goes something like 50/50, 50%/50%.... There are about 4 or so options. Not entirely sure but I don't want to do it again and risk ruining another disc which weren't cheap!

Pick the one that looks best - use the preview.

Avoid it being in the middle of a scene.

Try to get it as close to 50/50 as you can. Use the stars to help pick a good one.

Post a screenshot if you like so we can see what the options are.

Thanks. I'm not sure how I'd post a screen shot without trying to burn another disc though. Then I'd have to wait for an answer. Here's the log if that's any help.

So just pretend to start buring a disc, wait for the box to pop up, take a screenshot and then press cancel.

That log is not the whole thing, infact I'm not sure what it is or where you got it from!

I tried it again and I don't know if I missed the layer break part and it tried to select one itself, but I got a message saying 'Unable to find any cells for layer break' it said it could fix it by splitting cell VTS_02, PGC1. I selected ok and it continued to do it's thing. Then a while later I got a message saying I should have selected the MDS file and not that one, and it will do it automatically but not to do it again. What is a MDS file? I burn with dvdflick and IMG burn is included in to the program. I have no control once I start a burn so therefore I can't do anything about what IMG does so how do I avoid this in the future? Well it said it burned successfully and played on my computer. Won't play on my dvd player though. I have a JVC HR-XVC33U and a Citizen C507DVD-B. Neither of them say they support DL discs however I've heard plenty of people say their dvd players that don't support DL will play them. Maybe it's the discs I'm using?

You should have selected No and made a split. ImgBurn will not do it for you, so you must have read that wrong.

If you use the latest version 2.4.1.0 - ImgBurn will tell you where to make the split. Then following this guide should make it easy for you.

The .mds file is the one that holds the information about the layer break position in the ISO file. The .mds file is created automatically for you and it's that one you should pick the next time you burn a double layer disc.

I suggest that you only let DVDFlick output the final files and skip the automatic burn and instead load the final files from DVDFlick into the Build mode of ImgBurn. That lets you be in charge of the burning process.

:)

I'm 100 percent positive I didn't read it wrong. I wrote down what it said. I did get a 'end of the world' message (weird) but it wasn't like the one in the link. I'm not sure what version of IMG burn came with the dvdflick (1.3.0.0) so I have installed 2.4.1.0 separately.

The message in the link is the new one for the 2.4.1.0 release. :)

Ahh I see. I probably had the older version.

Well I think I'm going to take these discs back and see if I can exchange them cause I've been reading a lot of bad reviews. It sucks though because they were a lot cheaper than the verbatim.

Just to add, my sister used the discs on her Mac book (to make a sort of video bio of herself. She's a musician). She didn't know it was a DL and burned it as a single. It worked on our dvd player. Does this mean the discs aren't all bad or that it was probably just the program she used? That still doesn't help me though.

What make are the discs you're using ? And what is the media ID of the dye ? You can let us know by putting ImgBurn into read mode and then popping one of the blank DL discs in the drive. Then copy paste all the info from the window on the right of ImgBurn into your next post ;)

So far it seems that you didn't follow the DL disc burning process correctly but unless your blanks are Verbatim (preferably not made in India) then this could also be an issue.

To be honest with you, if you're going to burn to Dual Layer discs I really wouldn't waste your time on anything other than Verbatim DVD+R DL's...... I only use the non Indian produced ones and have never had any problems with them, with the other media ID's (yours are RITEK-S04-66) you see very mixed results.

As Cynthia said above, I would also grab the latest copy of ImgBurn and then follow her excellent guide that will help you get to grips with burning :)

Yeah that's what I was thinking since I've read some bad reviews of the memorex since buying them. HOWEVER my sister burned the receipt (GREAT I know) and I paid 40 bucks for them so I want to at least try the best I can. I have downloaded the lastest version of imgburn and am doing to try using that seperately after I authorize with dvdflick. I downloaded VobBlanker as well but I have no idea what a video.ts.ifo file is or how to make one.

Aaah - should have read the whole thread again. Doesn't DVD Flick give the option to make chapters at reasonable points? Seems we are seeing quite a few end of the world's lately.

Yeah it does. However I've found when I create chapters they become sort of 'stretched out'. Like if you were watching a VHS with a bad spot on the tape. If that makes sense. Not creating chapters tends to stop that.

You need to make the chapter points seamless. Open the final project (with chapters) in PgcEdit. Double click on the title and tick all the seamless boxes. OK and save.

Kiss goodbye to end of the world problems.
