Imgburn Locking up

Revo

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am a newbie here and I need some help. I have made several attempts to burn dl for a game. I am running an LG super-multi burner and using memorex dl dvd+r 8x discs. It starts out fine and then about 14% to 22% it just freezes. I thought maybe I was being impatient so I let it sit overnight and nothing. It is definetely burning as I can see it on the disc, just locking up in the middle???I am using the newest imgburn and thought these discs were fine to use. My drive is maybe 8 months old. Any help would be appreciated.

THanks

No error message at all?

How's the drive connected? PATA / SATA / USB / Firewire?

Is the firmware up-to-date on the drive?

Are your motherboard / controller drivers up-to-date?

Regarding the media you're using, read this...

http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000

I read through most of your other threads regarding this. My cable is PATA. I cannot seem to find any firmware updates from LG and my motherboard/controller drivers??????????

I saw the media thread but I did not see any mention (bad) about the memorex. I have a buddy using them. Now I know I should have got the Verbatrim, but is this where I start? I am trying again as we speak on the burn and here is the log. Not showing any errors just sitting here with a 0% KB write rate. I hit f9 or f8 according to one of your other threads brfore loading.

The media thread says ALL double layer discs are rubbish except for Verbatim.

Firmware 1.02 is out for your drive.

http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/247910/l...e-download.html

You can't use I/O debug mode on the Write process, the commands aren't logged (too slow).

Thanks I am updating now. Here is the latest log from where I left off last.

I 10:55:09 Writing Layer 0... (LBA: 0 - 1913759)

Your using a USB external drive then ? The error message your getting is down to the chipset within the external drive .

OK should I not use the external? I just brought the file into my internal drive and same thing happened after 1% complete. It starts off great and then just stops???

HELP! What am I not getting here, I know I'm new but I this should be easy right?

You've done the 1.02 firmware update now then yeah?

Open up device manager and get us a screenshot of the window when the ide ata/atapi controller and scsi/raid controller branches have been expanded (and are both visible!).

No not yet. I downloaded the update but it states to make sure it is the master and no other drives are hooked up. I have not opened my computer yet to confirm this so I did not want to run it yet. I will shortly, then try again and post the info. Thanks for your support.

Ignore all that rubbish, just run the update.

I Flashed the drive. Started again and was on a roll. Stopped at 9% finished. Its not showing any errors yet in the log but the write rate has stopped, only the time elapsed is still running?

I will wait.

I am confused a bit. I opened the device manager and IDE ATA/ATAPI is there and visible but not the SCSI?

DO I open when imgburn is running?

Well guys I decided to try a different file. All was good up to 32% complete. Then the same old thing. I am going to leave my log running to see if it shows any errors. Here is where it sits right now.

I 11:39:43 Link Size: Auto

I 11:39:43 Test Mode: No

I 11:39:43 OPC: No

I 11:39:43 BURN-Proof: Enabled

I 11:39:43 Book Type Setting: DVD-ROM

I 11:39:43 Optimal L0 Data Zone Capacity: 1,912,976

I 11:39:43 Optimal L0 Data Zone Method: ECC Block Boundary

I 11:39:44 Filling Buffer... (40 MB)

I 11:39:46 Writing LeadIn...

I 11:40:19 Writing Session 1 of 1... (1 Track, LBA: 0 - 3825923)

I 11:40:19 Writing Track 1 of 1... (MODE1/2048, LBA: 0 - 3825923)

I 11:40:19 Writing Layer 0... (LBA: 0 - 1912975)

However it ran good until about 12:10 on the clock before it froze with no updates to the log.

If SCSI/RAID isn't visible then you probably don't have anything under that branch - and hence it's not shown :)

Device manager is nothing to do with ImgBurn (obviously!) so it doesn't matter if ImgBurn is running or not when you open it.

I just want to see which controllers are present in your machine incase there are any drivers updates etc.

Are both the buffers full when it just stops burning?

Buffer hits 100% before it even starts writing.

The Device buffer moves all over the place. Now for example is locked at 77%

I just freezes though. If I try to cancel it says OK but does not close. If I try again it says "patience"

It will sit for hours like this without closing.

It can't 'cancel' because ImgBurn isn't in control.

The 'DeviceIoControl' windows API function has been called and ImgBurn is stuck until it returns (success or failure, I don't care which!).

'AUTO' write speed doesn't mean anything if you've not configured the 'Automatic Write Speed' feature. Please take a look in the Guides forum for info on how to do that.

So any other suggestions then? Is there a way to test so I don't keep blowin media? I see the test button but will that help my situation.

Test mode only works on DVD-R or DVD-RW media.

Obviously rewritable discs would be your best bet here... do you have any DVD+RW, DVD-RW or DVD-RAM discs?

Any luck with the device manager screenshot?

Heres the screenshot. I let it just freeze and run all day yesterday. It seem to have kept burning eventhough it was frozen. It got to verifing and kept erroring. It looks to have burned the disk though? Literally 8 hours it sat and never finished. It almost seems as if it is timing out not freezing? The disc did not work.

Yeah but don't keep using the DVD+R DL's!

I know I hate anything other than Verbatims but that doesn't mean I want you to keep wasting them ;)

DAMN I was so close. It was rolling along just fine. Got up to 60% complete. I was staring at it as it just went from 1400kb to 900,650,415,200,15,0 DONE! I will rephrase it is not freezing it just stops writing.

One weird coincedence, I turned off my large format printer just then it stared the countdown. I doubt there is any relation to that but thought I would mention it as it was weird. Almost like I turned off the write session, the timing was perfect.

I was certain it was going to work.... Well I am on # 8 DL disc...

What else is there. I have done everything you said from the last post, with the chipset and the DMA.

Once it does work, I will have 1 more question. What about .iso files without .dvd??? Will this work the same.

THanks again Lightning.
