Can't read burned discs in Nec3520

Recommended Posts

Anyone heard of this problem before?

Previusly I used the modified firmware 2.U3 on my Nec3520 and had no problems. Now with the latest modified firmware I have a problem. Using ImgBurn for the burnings. No problems during the burning or the verify stage (ejecting tray also).

But when I after the burning try to read the burned disc - the Nec will not read it. Not even in Windows will it show up. Also tried to burn with Nero 7 - gave the same result (not really true - ImgBurn gave better result in the scanning with DVDInfoPro... smiley.gif ). I can read the burned disc in my other burner - a Pioneer and they also work in my stand alone player. Old burns on the same media but with the older firmware the Nec can still read. Also if I try to burn with other brands of media - then the burned disc will show up in the Nec. Burning the same MCC03 disc in the Pioneer - then the Nec can read it.

Is it a problem with the firmware or my burner? :'(

The burned disc looks ok when I scan it:

Hi! :)

Tried to reflash it with the Nec original 3.06 version (extracted the .bin from the .exe file as the original Nec installer with firmware wouldn't accept the flashing). That firmware gave the same problem. It gave also a lower quality in the burning according to the scanning.

I'll try to flash it back to version 2.U3. To see if the problem is with that version also.

I don't have that problem with 2.U3 Cynthia. Just downloaded 2.U4. Got the system tied up for about an hour before I can flash it, if you haven't got it sorted by then I'll give it a whirl.

Edit: I don't have that exact media code though....

No, the old firmware 2.U3 gave the same problem.

Sounds as a case for Mulder and Scully... :'(

This is as close as I have to your media code Cynthia, Verb +R 16x, MCC-004-00, burning one as we speak, I'll then see if it can read it.

Plays fine in PowerDVD & shows up fine that "other" program, although windows sees nothing, it shows no title when in the nec drive, but does in the BenQ 1655. Strange

At work now, but if I remember right the above burn scanned in the low 90% neighborhood, which is all I ask of this drive with 16X burns. Does some nice work at 8X, or rather did with older firmware, will have to test 2.U4 & see how it does a little slower.

Does it act that way with non-MCC media also?

Restarting the PC from unplugged powerconnection did not help.

The Princo could be read after the burn in the Nec...

The 95.89% quality burn looks reasonable, ok its not 99% like the TYG02's but I am sure that would play ok....

The 49.69% one is pants though..... strange that Princo got that high a score =))

I think Cynthia needs a Benq.
Cynthia got a Nec4551A. :'(

Also got another spindle of those discs (this time printable) - but the same problem. :(

The burning looks ok and it can read those tricky discs. Even the old burns with the Nec3520 could be read. :)
