an odd problem (log included)...

hey there, i'm having a problem (i think) with imgburn... i'm pretty new to all of this so please forgive the naive noob.

i am trying to make discs of a certain series of video files that i have. i go through the motions of editing the titles and building the .iso in DVD Flick. then, i seperately use imgburn to write the .iso to a disc. i know dvd flick can do this for me, but i prefer to keep my programs as seperate as possible while i'm still learning. anyways, the first dozen times i used this method for other projects, it worked just fine. with this particular series, however, it is not working out well. the first disk worked perfectly on both my laptop and my dvd player. the second disk worked on the laptop only, and that is where i'm stuck.

the only difference i could find at all is that the second disk was a mix of .mpg and .avi files, whereas the first was all .avi. so, i went through and converted/compressed all of the mpg's to .avi's, and tried again. no dice.

i am using sony dvd+r discs, on a typical walmart compaq laptop (i don't know how to give you/find drive specs).

as i've said, everything has been working perfectly up until this point, and i can't find what the difference is. here is the log from my last attempt:

I 18:05:13 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!

I 18:05:13 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic Edition (6.0, Build 6001 : Service Pack 1)

the difference after writing was that this time, while still working on the computer, the menu i created was no longer present. again, it did not play on the standalone DVD player.

while i know that getting a better kind of disc would greatly improve my chances, since it worked perfectly fine before (all successful attempts and unsuccessful attempts have been from the same stack of dvd+r's), i'm really gung-ho about running down any software issues.

please, grill me with questions... i would tell you more details but i'm unsure what is relevant and what isn't.

thanks again for your time and suggestions thus far!

The PMA error is independent of the used media brand. Only way of not encountering is to use -R media.

Another trick seems to be to change the size of the project (Source File Sectors: 1,843,104).

do you have a suggestion for size? i have had a lot of successful burns with sizes larger than this.

also, i have made another attempt since then; this time, rather than taking the DVD Flick-built .iso and burning using imgburn, i used imgburn to build the .iso file from the video_ts file that dvdflick made... i know dvdflick uses imgburn to do it, i thought i'd try anyway. same result- menu not there, plays track on laptop but will not load in the standalone. this time i didn't even get a black screen, the disc wouldn't even read... not even a disc error, just endless spinning and clicking. this has been the standalone response for the past 5 or so attempts.

just thought i'd add this too: i've been using 10 .avi files about 20 min. in legth to build the .iso through dvdflick.

just to update the forum, i've found a temporary solution... by using DVD Flick the whole way through and reducing the amount of .avi files to 5 instead of 10, the disc does work. the only change to imgburn that dvdflick made was to burn at 2x. also, by using dvdflick the whole way through, i did not encounter the "Program Memory Area Update Failure" error. i'm going to tinker with it and find the best scenario given these new developments, and update the forum accordingly. long story short, success!

You should tell ImgBurn not to retry when finalisation fails and to just ignore the error, then the disc should work ok in your player.

Dear Lightning i have exatly same problem i search all imageburn setting where i can tell it not to retry ?

and also notice Pinned Topics "Program Memory Area Update Failure" i have samsung 203N and liteon 20A3H just today notice this problem, never encounter it befor !! it is a bit strange to me because I burn lots of image all on + verbatim brand mcc004 and never have a problem. so as you don't point out any solution these mean it is a hardware related bug ? and as it is in both samsung and liteon drive can it be because of Mediatek chip ?

my dvd finish just fine and verify ok with a nice scan, work on pc but never even start on standalone player.

thanks for your wonderful work
