So your DVD+R come out with a DVD+R booktype yeah? How very odd/annoying that when the drive is asked to change the booktype to DVD-ROM, it ends up producing a useless disc!

ImgBurn doesn't convert video files. If you want a DVD Video disc, you need to convert your mpg file into one before hand using something like DVDFlick or ConvertXtoDVD.
-
You do have the 1.00-09 / 1.00-A9 firmware installed yeah? http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/BH10LS30/files.html Right click the drive selection box and click 'Capabilities'. It should list the full firmware version info for your drive - rather than just '1.00'. I see you've formatted that disc with spare areas enabled. Maybe your player wants them disabled? Go back into the settings and re-enable/check the 'Prefer Format Without Spare Areas' box (it's on the 'Write' tab). Then do another full format. Setting the write speed to 1x doesn't do anything, the drive only supports those discs at 2x. Verify your burns via the little 'Verify' checkbox on the main 'Write' mode screen.

Yeah, I just fumbled my way though the .de site because they were cheaper that way Did you use ImgBurn manually (i.e. 'standalone') or did a 3rd party app call it up? If you did it manually, the logs should still be there - you can access them via the 'Help' menu. Failing that, copy stuff off the BD-RE disc to hdd, then reburn manually with ImgBurn... then you'll have a log to show me

AWS defaults to 'MAX' until you actually configure the 'Automatic Write Speed' feature. I'd stick with 8x write speed if I were you. It's the speed most likely to give you a working/decent burn. If Incremental isn't working either then I'm semi out of ideas. It shouldn't be that hard to get your drive to burn properly There are loads of options you can try out on the 'Write' tab in the settings (DVD+R Reserve Track, Perform OPC etc). Nothing that isn't enabled by default should be required under 'normal' circumstances though. Maybe it's the book type stuff that's messing things up, you could try disabling the 'auto change book type' option too. It might be best to power down the PC before attempting to burn again once you've done that so the drive gets reset back to default.

It looks like you need to close the track / session on that disc. Right click the drive selection box and select Close -> Track / Session / Disc (in that order). Hopefully then the drive will be able to see the actual size. Of course if Windows will allow you to browse the contents of the disc in Explorer you could just point Build mode at the drive and have it make a new image that way.

If you haven't already left feedback, make a point of mentioning the actual dye the discs use in it. I've ordered some of the proper Verbatim BD-RE 50GB discs now (i.e. the exact ones I linked you to - via Amazon.de) Once they arrive, I'll try and remember to update this thread with whatever dye/MID they use. Going back to your initial playback problem, do you have a burn+verify log handy? At this point, it's hard to know if the player has an issue with the discs (full stop), just with that burn (or perhaps the formatting method used) or with the content on the disc.
-
Whilst I'm sure you don't think so right now, this issue is nothing to do with the program. Your drive just isn't doing what it should be. Have you tried burning at the other supported speeds? Have you tried cleaning your drive with a cleaning discs? (it is 5+ years old now) You might end up having to switch away from the standard 'Write Type' (DAO/SAO) and use 'Incremental' instead. (The option for that is in the settings) Don't get me wrong, both should work just fine on a drive that's working as it should do. Sometimes you're forced to use one or the other when it isn't - as could be the case here. All of that is of course just a workaround and therefore not ideal. The best thing you could do is get a new drive that works properly.
-
At this moment in time, I have no idea! The 25GB BD-RE is 'VERBAT-IM0-000' so I'd expect true Verbatim disc to use something similar. Are yours actually branded as Verbatim? They've only quite recently started producing them. http://www.verbatim-europe.co.uk/en_1/product_bd-re-dl-50gb-2x-5-pack-jewel-case_3_0_33351.html

Error message when trying to burn DL discs
LIGHTNING UK! replied to waywardgenius's topic in ImgBurn Support
Just as recommended in that thread I linked you to: Try the other supported write speeds. Try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc. You'd have probably been better off with the MKM-001-00 dye discs (2.4x speed) rather than the MKM-003-00 (8x speed) ones. Too late now, I know. Beyond that, I have no faith in slimline drives. They fail to burn far more frequently than the 'normal' size drives - and produce much lower quality burns when they do actually work. -
That dye doesn't sound right for a Verbatim disc.
-
I must admit, when I first saw this... ... I did wonder if there might simply be too many files/folders present. I'm not sure if there's any way to tell why the OS's UDF parser is unhappy with the disc. Maybe it puts a note in Event Viewer?
-
It looks like your drive can't read the disc at all. Try ejecting it and reinserting it a few times (whilst ImgBurn is waiting in Read mode). Keep an eye on what it says in the status bar at the bottom of the main screen. Yes it could be scratches, try and clean it up a bit.
-
You could always buy a cheapo LiteOn for messing around with and doing quality scans
-
Yes, definitely try. There's always a difference in quality when you burn at different speeds, otherwise they probably wouldn't offer you any sort of selection. The thing to remember is that the 'best' speed could be *any* of the ones on offer. It's only by burning at each speed and testing the discs (PIPO/disc quality scan as I mentioned earlier) that you can really see which is which. Of course if you always get flat out failures (where verify fails) at one speed and not at another then you should avoid using that one! The data is digital so if it's physically readable, the picture will always be exactly the same.

A burnt disc is not simply good or bad, there's like a million levels of each Drives have to compensate for media errors all the time - there's no such thing as a perfect / error free disc. It's only the really bad errors that cause a totally unreadable sector - the ones a 'Verify' will pick up on. Take a look in the drives/media forums. We've tested lots of discs/drives and posted burn quality scans (mainly from DVDInfoPro). I'm sure if you just Google 'PIPO disc quality' you'll find lots of info about it. The MyCE (CDFreaks) forums are also full of such scans. No What you want is the best quality burn possible, which in turn makes it the most readable. An easy to read disc makes for a decent/steady transfer rate and that means you won't have a problem with the drive spinning up and down - and that's what extends loading times and can make video skip/jump/glitch. In any case, don't you use the hdd installation feature on your console? That way you don't have to suffer the drive spinning noise and loading times are much shorter.
-
Have you only burnt 1 at 2.4x? Maybe it was just a fluke. Anyway, as I've said time and time again, 2.4x isn't always the best speed to burn at. You've kinda proved that to yourself right there by getting a fully readable burn at 4x and an unreadable burn at 2.4x. Slower doesn't always equal better. I wonder if your samsung drive supports performing disc quality/pipo scans in the likes of CDSpeed / Opti Drive Control / DVDInfoPro ? It might be worth giving it a try - then you'll be able to see the burn quality for yourself.
-
We really do need to the see the log You can access old logs via the Help menu.
-
What happens if you bring up ImgBurn's Read mode? Can it see that anything is on the disc? It should show the volume label, file systems etc. Try checking the disc with something like IsoBuster too.
-
Update the firmware on your drive to the latest version (SB03). http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/SH-S223B/files.html If that doesn't fix it, copy + paste the disc info from the box on the right when you're in Read mode.

Remember Copies setting only works in Build settings
LIGHTNING UK! replied to dpolsrod's topic in ImgBurn Bugs
This has now been fixed, thanks for reporting it Synchronisation of options (so that's more than just the 'Copies' one) between modes no longer takes place when the form is first being shown. -
Remember Copies setting only works in Build settings
LIGHTNING UK! replied to dpolsrod's topic in ImgBurn Bugs
Actually, it's nothing to do with any of that What you're seeing is the result of synchronisation between the different modes. This is where you change 'Copies' in one of them and it changes the other modes to the same value. It just so happens that the Build mode 'Copies' option is being restored first (when the program first loads) and is updating/overwriting Write modes value. Normally they'd be the same value (due to the sync) and thus this problem is never normally visible. You're only saving the value for one mode and that's why they're then out of sync. I'll see what I can do to work around the problem.
