Posting a log will give us a little more information about your setup, what kind of discs you are trying to use and what firmware you are currently using on your drive.
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters/hp-dvd740e/1336
As you can see your drive should be able to handle DVD+R DL media up to 8X.

Post a log please.
EDIT: disregard the slowpoke.

I too have a door that I leave open when ever I'm on the PC or when I'm burning anything.
Shame you do not live closer so I could come and burgle your house.
I'm usually sitting next to that door with a shotgun waiting on unsuspecting burlars...

A scanning drive will allow you to do a quality scan of your discs after you've burned them to see how well they were burned and give an indication of the quality of the discs in general.
-
Yes, I think it's the discs. You aren't the only one using discs with the Ritek dye in them that have been pointed towards using Verbatim.

I guess it's time to upgrade. I still can't get used to something that is three years old is an antique.
Thanks for your help with this. It's been driving me nuts.
David
The good news it excellent burners can be had in the $30-$40 range nowadays...Pioneer 115D for instance from the Egg.

I have searched for a "convert flv to video", without any luck.
Doesn't matter where the files are, Imgburn still won't convert them....*hint: It's a burning application.

All I see is the U.S.S. Enterprise and that damned bug I can't kill on my screen.

The link doesn't really give any specs...just features. How is it connected, USB? I don't see why it wouldn't work with Imgburn.

I 21:52:31 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: CMC MAG-D01-00) (Speeds: 2.4x)
Shoddy media...you'll do yourself a favor to only buy Verbatim for DL burning.
