  1. Well I've never had a problem with Memorex DVD+R SL's, which I found out today were made by Ricoh (my current batch was, at least). I could try a reputable online retailer, though I checked 3 retailers so far and haven't seen a MID. I don't know which ones are reputable since I don't buy stuff online. If the MCC code you're talking about is that important (meaning it was made to MCC's specs, with their proprietary dye and everything), I think most Verbatims will be okay. I found this website where a lot of information is posted about burning specs and people there are talking about Verbatim discs manufactured by companies such as Falcon Technologies, Prodisc, and CMC, which all had the MCC code on the disc.
  2. Yes, Verbatim is a brand owned by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. I don't entirely know what you mean by 'nobody makes them'. Mitsubishi makes it's own Verbatim discs, and they also contract manufacture to companies such as Ritek, CMC, and Moser Baer, according to what I have found out so far. It's possible that these companies do not make DL discs for Verbatim as I haven't found any info specifically about DL disc manufacture being contracted out. I hope that's the case because I now realize there's no way to determine who made the disc until you get it into your drive. Best I could do is check the 'Made in ...." on the label. E.g. Verbatim discs from India are probably made by Moser Baer.
  3. like this... Okay I guess what you mean is that when Ritek makes a Verbatim disc, they use MKM dye and when they make a Memorex disc they use some inferior dye. Hard to believe the dye makes such a difference. If I'm interpreting it wrong please let me know.
  4. Thanks for that link to the firmware. I've been trying to find it on samsungodd.com with no luck. I will also try burning at a slower speed. I understand that Verbatim-made discs are considered to be the best by this forum, but how can I tell which discs labelled "Verbatim" were made by Verbatim and not an inferior manufacturer?
  5. I bought my computer second-hand and have only just started using the TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H652L burner that came with it. My first attempts to burn dual layer discs with Nero failed so I tried ImgBurn, but that failed too. I have perused the forums for 5 minutes so I know what the likely answers are already, but here are my questions: How do I update my firmware? How do I know the Verbatim discs you'll tell me to buy weren't made by Ritek or CMC? Wikipedia tells me that Verbatim uses those discs as well as their own. My link here's my burn log if it helps I 12:26:49 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started!
