Do you know this kind of hacked firmware for the plextor px760a?

Hi to all. My question is about the write speed choosen by imgburn (and other softs too) Why only burn with supported media speed only? Technically, couldn't you force the burn at the speed you choose? cause if a media can be burn at x6 x12 x16 x18, why couldn't it be at x1 x2 x2.4 x4 x8 x14? What's the technical problem about this? Thanks for advance for the explanations.
