  1. thank you both LIGHTNING UK! & dbminter for your prompt answer This is the only kind of Verbatim I could find here. Will try Ebay next time. It does not always happen. sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. but it is a recent phenomena and my LG is quite old. it refuse to burn DL (in the sense that it fails every time) Maybe I'll start with a new dvd writer

  3. Found it in settings -> events please ignore previous post
  4. Greetings I'm trying to help a friend. Couldn't find in settings how do I save the following menu options: input->advanced, output->device, so that every time I open Imgburn, I won't have to take care of these menu options. For me (windows 7 sp1, Imgburn 2.5.8) these options just stayed there after setting them and burning for the first time. My friend has to set them everytime he opens the program. (he has the same OS and same version of Imgburn) thank you
  5. partial solution: got 2 iso files of 8GB (more exactly iso+mds) burnt on a verbatim at speed 4 and it succeeded! twice! maybe this is a solution for me until I replace my LG still no success with data (many files). I have to turn to my old and weak XP and burn now I have a solution: turn to ISO and burn on current Win7
  6. Thanks again LIGHTNING UK! since it is the drive you suspect I attached the drive family tree in my previous post it is new and with last firmware but I'm willing to throw it away or add a new drive if I only knew which would solve my problem (needless to say that I don't have any trouble with DVD5 on any media)
  7. I read about L-EC uncorrectable error and found that I have to add my drive family tree info for the complete picture so here it is attached (drive family tree.jpg) thanks
  8. Is there any way to know if my burner (LG HL-DT-ST GH24NS95) is SATA3? couldn't find it in LG site (probably is not too new) because all my sata on board are SATA3 so perhaps this is my problem and I have to by an internal SATA2 card (if there is one) thanks

  10. interesting now that I follow all rules and burn at speed 4 with ImgBurn on Verbatim nobody can explain why I fail, except the vague answer of spinningwheel that something in machine/drive/firmware is misiing. again: drive- LG HL-DT-ST GH24NS95 firmware- last according to LG site machine? is it pc hardware, OS or what and what should I change I'll try to add Sony Optiarc since it looks like a popular burner in this site but I have serious doubts meanwhile I go back to my old and weak pc with XP and core 2 duo cpu and 2GB ram and burn dvd9 without a wink but it is not a solution. the xp is a dying machine (over 6 years old) and I need a solution to burn 8GB of data (not a movie) thanks again

  12. thanks for your quick reply. if it only a question of media, how come it works fine on a far weaker old XP pc? and failing on write error?! but I'll listen to your advice and get verbatim dvd+r dl and we'll see what happens. thanks again
  13. and another piece of information: read few post dealing with burning DVD9 and ran to check firmware updates for my LG, and there are none.

  15. forgot to mention: CPU I7 (as opposed to Core 2 Duo on XP) all data point to some advantage with windows 7 in both cases I burn with speed x4 and FS ISO9660+UDF. Is there a way to export my settings or view recommended settings? thanks again
  16. details: OS- Windows 7 Ultimate x64 + SP1 RAM- 8GB HDD- Kingston SSD (112GB for system), Seagate 3TB ST3000DM01-1CH1 ImgBurn- 2.5.8.0 DVD Writer- LG HL-DT-ST GH24NS95 ImgBurn log file- attached anything I missed? I fail to burn DL with speed 4 (data, not dvd) but oddly enough I have no problem with my older PC (WinXP x32 + SP3,2GB Ram) with the same type of DVDwriter (except GH22). Please help
  17. report: removed imgburn, cleaned the folder, checked the registry and there were only indirect reference to imgburn (by other programs that use burning) so I left them, reinstalled 2.5.8.0 and got the same phenomenon. I give up. My windows 7 is quite new, installed a little over a week ago. maybe I should go back to some previous version. It is one of the very rare and few times that I didn't solve the problem with the help of a forum. meanwhile I'll do what you suggested, admin: after dragging files to burn I'll click the layout editor on main window so that it dissappears and click the burn icon and hope for the best. many thanks!
  18. I didn't have this problem either in XP. this is new to me. the problem is that once the layout editor pops up in front of the main windows I cannot click the main window and see it, like I should. can removing imgburn completely (including cleaning the registtry) and reinstalling be helpfull? thanks
  19. thanks again admin but you must admit that it is a temporary solution. Can't imagine why the same version in XP behaved normally. btw, I compared the settings tab by tab (using a kvm) and found 1 difference concerning playing CD/DVD automatically which is a system option. I'll check it off in the device manager. Is there a chance of things getting better by removing, cleaning and reinstalling 2.5.8? going back to previous version?
  20. thank you dbminter. as admin said done it in windows 7 so that it'll serve me in the future. admin, I'm with ver. 2.5.8.0 and in the settings, build tab, page 2 the stay on top checkbox is unchecked. but now I notice that if I click the layout editor on imgburn main windows the layout editor dissappears and I see the burn icon again the question is will it burn with the layout editor not in sight? I'll have to try. many thanks
  21. Greetings OS: Win7+SP1 ImgBurn Ver.: 2.5.8 2 problems 1) In Build mode when I click the layout editor it appears minimized. what can I do so that it appears as a new window already "restored"? 2) when the layout editor is restored and I click the main ImgBurn window I can't see it as the layout editor acts as "always on top". what can I do to prevent it (be able to jump bewtween the two windows). In win XP I didn't have both problems. Last question: 3) Is there a way of saving the settings so that I can transfer settings from win XP to Win 7? thanks
  22. changed to a third device (still LG GH22NS50 TN03 and for the first time in a week or so I succeeded in burning a Verbatim DVD-R of data in 8x. This is not a proof that everything works. Now I have to try a DL, but it gives me some hope that it is my bad luck. thanks you for all your advice.
  23. Do I need the Graph Data Files? Does it cause trouble if I turn this option off? thanks
