  1. Imgburn will only copy DVDs that are NOT copy protected as an ISO file, and it can be burned at any time. Also Imgburn does not do any sort of comverting, so if you are looking to copy a DVD that is protected and to convert it, you have to look at a different program, since Imgburn is strictly for burning data 'as is'.

  2. It shouldn't matter. 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7 will still be able to run 32-bit programs, so you should be able to install Imgburn without any problems.

  3. See this: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000

Also please pay more attention to one detail, this is from your log:

    I 20:25:23 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66) (Speeds: 4x; 6x; 8x)

    I 20:25:23 Write Speed: 2x

    W 20:25:23 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 2 770 KB/s (2x), Got: 5 540 KB/s (4x)

    I 20:34:21 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66) (Speeds: 4x; 6x; 8x)

    W 20:34:21 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 2 770 KB/s (2x), Got: 5 540 KB/s (4x)

    I 18:32:58 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D00-01) (Speeds: 2,4x)

    I 18:32:58 Write Speed: 2x

    18:32:58 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 2 770 KB/s (2x), Got: 3 324 KB/s (2,4x)

Since 2x is not an option, your burner adjusted accordingly. Burning at slowest speed does not necessarily mean producing the best burn possible, in most cases it is the other way around. Also 2x is impossible on any +R media, and 2.4x these days is impossible depending on your drive, since it is usually oversped to 4x or even 6x depending on the version of the firmware.

  4. I have strange results with +R DLs and my cheapo DVD player. Before I discovered Imgburn and had a working notebook, I burned ('successfully'), DL media on it's drive with nero. These were Memorex DLs mostly, so I am sure they are CMC discs, but a few Verbatim discs too. They seem to load and play, and now though when I use Verbatims on my normal burner my player seems to mistake them for actual CD-ROMs, so instead of playing the disc it just goes into a screen showing directory listings.

I'm not too concerned that the discs are bad, because I always verify afterwards and these are the recommended MIDs (MKM), so I am blaming the player, and unfortunately my parents have yet another cheapo player and even worse it is those f'ing VCR/DVD combos. I'm thinking of going to my local electronics store to see what the results are on testing one of my discs on the bluray players (since I'm sure you can't even find a dvdplayer anymore hooked up to the flatscreens on the sales floor).

Now that I finally got myself a means of income, I might consider a bluray player but first after having done some extensive research on it's capabilities, especially with BD-R DL media and such. I also suppose the jury is still out on LTH media, since nobody is really using those most likely due to price, but that would be the ultimate irony right there due to LTH media being produced on 'current CD/DVD media lines, thus making them less expensive' or whatever the claim was about LTH.

Still I most likely wouldn't be putting the bluray to full use, as I am very annoyed with bluray movies and their even more draconian DRM rubbish. Nevermind about HD, and buying a new TV. I probably wouldn't even go with HDMI, and just stick with component video. Thanks DRM! <_<

Though all that is a very very low priority, since my first task is when I can save up some cash is to finally buy (build) a decent computer.

And as for bluray I am more interested in the higher capacity, as I am really getting swamped with DVDs, and it would be nice to cut down on all those discs, with blurays.

  5. From firmwarehq.com:

    HJ24 13th October, 2005 hpdvd740b_HJ24.exe

This is the latest firmware that you are running.

I would just give up on this burner, it is just too old even if it does support the MID that you are using. If it has trouble burning or verifying good quality media then I wouldn't waste another disc and just go ahead an invest in a more current burner. In the long run it will save you trouble let alone money on buying discs and having high chances of just wasting them.

Also note when you do get a new burner eventually, don't be surprised if you still can't get 2.4x burning speeds. Any new burner now will automatically overspeed 2.4x rated media to at least 4x, and that cannot be overruled. Pay close attention to what imgburn states as the slowest speeds possible on the media you are using, and the supported speeds available will always override your choice for the slowest 2.4x or even 2x.

Still it amazes me that users pick 2x when it is stated that it is not even available, let alone impossible to burn a +R disc at 2x. Oh well... :whistling:

  6. If you plan on burning DL media, don't even bother doing it with your notebook's burner. You are better off investing in a normal burner with an external USB 2.0 enclosure.

Notebook drives are useless at producing good quality DL burns.

    Also:

    I 17:31:02 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: CMC MAG-D03-64) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x)

That is pretty much the worst kind of disc you can get, let alone for DL. Even Ritek media is better than CMC stuff but still not recommended.

This guide has pretty much the best suggestions, and I recommend you read it: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000

  7. And that guide offers suggestions. I don't know why I need to spoon feed you what the guide says, but if you are having issues burning (and obviously you are), try those suggestions. See if you have the most current firmware version for your burner. I also probably assuming you are not running the latest version of Imgburn or latest service pack for windows, since you decided to not post a full log properly.

If those don't work, try getting the suggested discs, Verbatim +R DLs instead of using the MID you are using (RICOHJPN).. If that still doesn't work, then you have a drive that just can't actually burn DL media. Burning DL media is not exactly the same as burning SL media.

  8. I would still recommend following the suggestions in that guide. You can try burning another disc again this time at a faster rate rather than 2.4x, such as 4x. Again though if that fails, the suggestions in that guide is rather helpful.

  9. Oh yea, it makes sense about the MDS not being there actually. At least the MD5 issue was resolved. As I said earlier though in my case, it is not feasible to change the code page under the advanced settings to anything other than Chinese (PRC). Luckily all my other programs still work great with no issues. Only time I ever notice there is something wrong is usually with certain installers and character glitches, other than that and this minor issue with Imgburn I haven't really noticed anything else. Thanks for your fix for the future release though :).

  10. Ok, well after changing the regional settings back to English (US) I got an MD5 file now, but no MDS. So yea, it was my regional settings. Too bad I can't get Windows to keep different regional settings per user, rather than applying to all users.

    post-35670-0-59650100-1312056632.png

  11. Ok, another possibility could be because of my regional settings under windows... I should have realized this earlier, but this could most likely be the cause. Since my significant other is Chinese I have the regional settings set for Chinese (PRC), because she uses two programs that simply will not display Simplified Characters unless I set the regional settings to that. So could that be the cause?

I can temporarily change it back to English (US) to see if that works.

  12. Yep, since I made that test image earlier and it outputted an MDS and MD5. I am guessing the MD5 sum has to be in ANSI only, I don't know even if ASCII supports that character. Since there is no real option to output an MD5 sum in either unicode, UTF, etc, I am assuming it could be only in ANSI but thats just a guess on my part.

  13. Oh I know whats wrong. I made a test image (40MB) with a random file and labeled it as 'test'. Imgburn outputs a test.iso test.mds and test.md5...

It seems my Motörhead isos are different and I know why....

The damn --> ö <-- , MD5/MDS files are only in ANSI so... Thats why Imgburn isn't outputting the MD5 sum, after calculating it! :swear:

  14. Generating some ISOs for later burning, I noticed that Imgburn stopped outputting MD5 sum files. I made sure I had Create MD5 File checked in build tab -> page 1. Imgburn outputs an MD5 sum in the logs, but it just won't also make the file itself anymore... What the!?

  15. As the guide I pointed you said: Try Verbatim +R DL discs with MID MKM-001-00 and see if there are any firmware updates to your drive.

Apparently on firmwarehq there are no firmware updates available for your drive, so all I can suggest is try getting the Verbatim discs that are rated 2.4x (MKM-001-00). Until you get those discs, you can try burning your game again with another Ritek disc to see if it might work this time...

    I 00:24:00 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x)

    I 00:24:00 Write Speed: 2x

    W 00:24:00 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 2,770 KB/s (2x), Got: 5,540 KB/s (4x)

You wanted 2x, but note that 2x isn't even available for DL media, and in this case 2.4x isn't either so it is oversped to 4x. This is normal due to your drive/firmware version. Anyways, since 4x did not work, go ahead and try 6x and then 8x. If that still doesn't work, again try getting the Verbatim discs.

Thats all I can really say at this point.

  16. Ah ok, well then you can't simply 'compress' them to a zip file and expect them to playback. Also chances are that these DVD Video discs are copy protected, so you can't simply try to make a valid compressed file anyways (i.e send to compressed folder).

If you really want to make them fit on a standard single layered disc, you need to use a program called DVDShrink. That program will also try to get around any copy protection on the disc, but it is not guaranteed to work on all discs, because usually studios try to make changes to anti copying measures.

DVDShrink will produce what is called an 'iso' file that you can use imgburn to burn to your DVD-R or DVD+R, and you have the option to produce a slightly more compressed version of your videos to fit on a single layered 4.7GiB (4.4GB +-R disc). Note also that when you do produce such a file, the quality is lost slightly in order for it to fit on a single layered disc.

Also note Imgburn will also not be able to copy your discs either. Only discs that are not copy protected.
