  1. I think it is just a firmware issue. I think I have seen it with all the different BD-RE's I have: SONY-ES1-002 (Sony), MEI-T01-001 (Sony DL), Ritech-RW1-001 ("TDK" (returned all but one I opened)). This is mostly a heads up for people with this drive. Because if one wants to enable "spare areas", then just uncheck "Full Certification" and leave "Properly Formatted" on and it formats fine. Going to "With Spare Areas" and "Minimum Format Size" seems to have help improve the LDC/BIS Scan for a BD-RE DL I have (Max BIS now 8).
  2. I am new to DL (Dual Layers) and I am burning Blu Ray BD-REs. Previously with single layer, I would limit the size of a burn to stay away from the edge of the media. This seemed important for junk (Ritek/CMC/etc) DVD+RW/DVD-RWs as the error rate at the end of these discs would go through the roof. The problem is with DL, from my understanding, is that it goes to the end of the disc and starts going backwards. Is there anyway to limit how close it gets to the edge with DL discs. I tried "minimum" on format size and that seemed to help, but the BIS spike at the crossover was still there on one of my DL discs.
  3. The Sony Optiarc BD-5300S 1.04 does not seem to like "with full certification" and enabling "spare areas". It basically goes to "erasing 99%" and stays there forever (or at least overnight). If you disable "spare areas" the drive seems to disable "full certification" by the drive and completes quickly.
