I have the LG GBW-H20L since 2009 and I successfully burned lots of BD-Rs except for Memorex which are a piece of junk and went rot three months after I burned them. But since that I have been buying Verbatim and I haven't had a single coaster. I also normally erase and burn a Sony BD-RE that I bought along with the burner.
Last I bought two packs of these Verbatim 25GB 6X BD-R 10 Packs Spindle Disc Model 97238, and to my surprise they don't work at all. The first showed an error at the start of the burning process:
So I figured it was bad, and I tried another one. Same thing. I kept trying about five more and I got the same error message. So I wondered if the drive was bad, but I did a test with my Sony BD-RE and it went just fine.
As far as I can tell, the only difference between these and all the Verbatim I burned successfully is that these are 6x, but I checked the drive specs and it's supposed to be 2x-6x. I also checked the LG website but when I went to the support page for my drive, there's no firmware updates, or a way to download that tool that did the updates automatically. In fact the LG website is so crappy that I'm sure my next drive won't be LG, I just bought it back then because Circuit City had a great deal on it.
The weird thing is that I think Imgburn is not even touching the disc physically. All these discs that give me the error above, when I put them back, they still show as empty in the info window in Imgburn. Note that these discs are not the LTH models, which I never buy because I think they are not compatible with my drive.
If I click Retry it keeps doing the same over and over. When I click Cancel I get a couple more dialogs which I cancel too and that's it. I'll put the full log at the end of this message so you can all see and maybe someone knows why this is happening. Normally I would just email Newegg and tell them they're bad and I want to return them, but they were running a special on these and basically I got 40 BD-Rs for $30, which is a steal. If I return them and the only problem was that they were too new for my drive and eventually I end up having to buy a new burner, I lose that great deal. So can anybody give me a clue to what's going on? Here's the log:
