  1. I tried Phantom Drive and it's buggy not to mention designed stupidly. If you set it to emulate a CD image, it's 703mb. You can't change the size of it at all (not to a 650 disc or to a larger disc). It's also given me crap when it supposedly did allow a burn. Burner has a trial limitation of 50mb so not gonna even bother with that one. Virtual CD, haven't toyed with it yet but it's more expensive than Phantom Drive and I recall someone saying that they're both from the same company or something. I cracked under the pressure of wanted to get this tested out and downloaded... Nero (ewww). Plz plz PLZ add in the ability to create an image file (img/cue or bin/cue whatever). My computer started crying when it sensed me typing in Nero. It started begging me to not give up when I clicked to download. It threatened suicide when installing. It screamed bloody murder when I used it. So PLEASE consider adding the ability to create a bin file with the cue file. While I'm on it, if I go to make a cue sheet and load a cue file that I made with ImgBurn only minutes earlier, it should load the gap/title/author details too shouldn't it? If not, then it's working fine. Otherwise, it's completely ignoring those details and making it pointless to try to load a cue file to make any changes to it.
  2. Not worried about wasting a CD, more of just wanting to skip doing that and not end up having a CD laying around and not knowing if it's the one I want to keep or not. Would rather that when I burn something, the only reason to discard it is if it's damaged or something. I was hoping for something to do the equivalent of me burning to a disc and then ripping it back, but without actually doing all that. Also hoping that I won't have to install anything else, that I'm just not doing something correctly. However if I need to install something else then I guess I don't have a choice. Any particular recommendations on a virtual recordable drive? I know Nero offered one (at least did at one point) but that's too much b.s. to download.
  3. Found the instructions on how to generate a .cue sheet, that part I got figured out. Here's where I'm having an issue. Instead of simply burning it to a CD, I want to create an image file first that I can mount so that I can give the CD a 'test drive' first, to make sure that the resulting audio will sound right and such. That and if I decide to burn extra copies later, I'd like to be able to simply burn the exact same image that was used the first time. Don't want to burn to a disc and then 'rip' it, because that rather defeats the purpose of being able to test it BEFORE burning it. So I've tried mounting using A120%, Gizmo, Daemon Tools and I even tried IsoBuster. All of them bomb for reading the CUE file. I used WinAMP to 'play' all the same files in the same order but to disk instead of to the speakers. I used the resulting WAV files to add to the cue sheet and IsoBuster was able to load that just fine. However it seems like no matter what options I try, I can't get it to give me a usable image file. Either it spits the different audio tracks out as individual ISO files or it gives me errors when trying to generate a single ISO file. So if someone knows of a simple and easy way to create an image from the CUE file, that would be wonderful. I know I could do it with Nero, but with as bulky/bloated/expensive as that is, I'd rather avoid it like the plague. (Nero USED to be good, but then it tried to turn into an all purpose.. something..)
  4. I believe it does report it in the same places. I recall hitting the option to verify against an image and it felt like the same locations. These were all up front of the verify process, seems like once it moved past the start area that things went fine. I do believe that I had once seen it generate, say, 13 miscompares on one attempt before I canceled it (once it was on it's way) but the following time it only hit 12. Question, if I use the option to 'ignore' miscompares, does it completely ignore them or just not prompt me when it finds them but continues to count them anyway? I'm using TDK brand DVD's, but then you probably already figured that out. I'll have to give it a try, burning with int. and testing with ext.
  5. Any update on this or have you not had a chance to look at the logs yet?
  6. If I'm being blind or stupid, then don't hurt me, just point me in the right direction. Other than that, when looking in the log file recently, the only thing I see are timestamps but no date stamps (other than generated graph files). So here's my idea. Without changing each and every line to include a date with the time (as that would drastically increase the size of a log file), have periodic inserts of the date. When ImgBurn starts, instead of just a time, have the time with the date on the line, like so: I 20:47:41 ImgBurn Version 2.5.6.0 started on 2012-01-12 (GMT-0500 Standard time)! I tossed in the GMT thing as another suggestion that isn't really all that important, but basically just lets the viewer/reader know what timezone/offset just for information purposes. Main thing being a reference to the date. When an operation is started, aborted, completed, whatever, anytime that it would be a minor add and not a major one. For example: I 20:57:15 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:09:18 (Started on 2012-01-12 @ 20:47:56) Benefit is that with a big log file where it's always being appended to, it'll be easier to find certain activities.
  7. For drive 4 For drive 1 (successful verify of the same disc) I already checked to see if there's a newer firmware for the drive and I'm a bit lost on whether or not there is. The latest version available for download is 1.01-02, but mine is 1.01-10. Unless I'm being stupid, 10 would be a later version than 02, so I don't want to flash to 02 since that would be a downgrade. Any idea if GP08LU30 is just another model but with a different model ID? I was gonna ask on club myce, but haven't had a chance to finish digging around some more first.
  8. Okay I burned a DVD and got miscompare errors. I thought, okay it's one disc, bound to happen that I'd have a bad burn or something. Tried a couple of times to verify and would keep getting the same issue. So yeah, chalked that up to being a bad burn/disc. Now I'm thinking it may have been just fine (read on). I did another burn of the same ISO image and started getting the same problem. I figured, okay, something's not right here. So I popped it into another drive (BR burner/etc) and it verified with no issues. Now here are some specs and details to help with figuring this problem out. I 20:47:41 -> Drive 1 - Info: HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH08LS20 2.00-01 (E:) (ATA) I 20:47:42 -> Drive 4 - Info: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GP08LU30 1.01-10 (P:) (USB) Drive 1 is the internal BR drive and I love it (so far never had a problem burning BR's with it, other than trying to overburn a BR disc) Drive 2 and drive 3 are virtual. Drive 4 is external and is the one I'm getting the issue with. It's an external slim drive with a cable for using one or two USB ports (second port is to have extra power if one isn't enough). Was using one at first and have done burns with it before without problems, hooked up the second to see if that made a difference and it doesn't. I have AnyDVD HD installed. I disabled it for drive 4 and it still has the issue. No issues with drive 1, despite AnyDVD HD being active on it. Now, logically, I'm inclined to think that there is something up with the ext slimdrive. However, I want to know if there could be anything else to check or try before declaring the issue being with the drive. Oh and before I forget to say it, I had been using DVD Decryptor for years. It's wonderful for what it does (or rather, did). Recently I went looking for something to let me generate ISO's from files, ala Nero, but free. That's how I found ImgBurn. Unless I'm mistaken or misread something, ImgBurn is basically a continuation of DVD Decrypter and, in my opinion, a very worthy one. Nero is nice and all, but has turned into bloatware. I like the simplicity of ImgBurn, where I can do all that is necessary. Create ISO's, rip/burn/verify, etc. To be honest, I can't think of anything that I miss about Nero that ImgBurn doesn't have. So I wanted to say, "Good job!" on this wonderful tool. (Also, good choice of forum software. I use it myself and think it's a solid product.)
