  1. Are the free products reliable or are they compromised versions of the retail versions. AVAST antivirus is good but is it as good as the retail products. Why would one product be free and the other a pay product. What I am gettin at is am I compromising my security by using free products

I can't say you would be compromising your security but you would be getting less features. What you should do is compare what the free version of a product gives you to what the paid product gives. I know that at one time, and maybe still, you could compare the free ZoneAlarm to the paid ZoneAlarm Pro right at their web site. You might find that to be the case with other products as well.

  2. Hey guys u giving away your ages here :-)

With age comes wisdom, young grasshopper. albert.gif

I guess you could say that at the ImgBurn forum you have the "wisdom of the ages". Or, maybe it is the "wisdom of the aged".

  3. Hi Senraeth:

    Welcome to ImgBurn.

Corny is right-on about the CMC media. They are pure junk. Get yourself some Verbatim discs. For the single-layer discs you can use either +R or -R and for the dual-layer make sure you get the +DL.

  4. Not sure if it's the same down under, but in Canada/USA there's two ways to tell if they're good Verbs. One involves buying them and opening the case. The other, believe it or not, it's true, is the font on the top of the spindle. If the Lock ----Open is a Times New Roman font, they are made by CMC, and are the best Verbs out there. The ones with an Ariel font are made by Prodisc, and are considerably poorer. With those expect a 5-10% failure rate, as well as about 10-15% less quality DIP rating. The other method is to check the stamped serial number right neat the hub, very small, the Prodisc will have a - or + in the middle, the CMC's will be one consecutive number, 16 characters I believe. There's a bit more info to be added re the serial number if you want, but that's the nitty. I guess I should write a Verb buyers guide...

I've just checked all of my cake boxes and they are all a Times New Roman font. True to what you said these discs are MCC (I'm sure you didn't mean CMC ewwww9dq.gif). I have no cake boxes that have an Ariel font.

  5. I was told today, by a contact I have in Verbatim Tech Support, that they are gearing up to start selling a 50-pack spindle of their +R DL discs here in the USA. It will have the same media code as their other +DL's have. He wasn't sure but the 50-pack may already be available in some areas.

I checked with him because someone here mentioned about a 50-pack costing $145.00. I think that person was in Canada.

Considering that I have gotten 20-packs from NewEgg for $34.00 I would imagine a 50-pack would bring the cost-per-disc down even further.

  6. hmmm.... I have been using this same type of disk for a long time (with no issues).

Just because you have been lucky doesn't mean that the discs are any good. If you do a search here you will find many instances of people having problems with DL media that were corrected by switching to Verbatim discs.

    I 14:36:49 Writing Layer 1... (LBA: 2077056 - 4092465)

    W 14:37:17 Failed to Write Sectors 2077376 - 2077407 - Write Error

There still could be a problem with your drive but since it did start writing to Layer 1 I believe it is the media. You could try getting another drive but I think the best way to go is to eliminate the media as being the problem. If you continue to have the problem then the drive may be the cause.

    I 14:12:15 Destination Device: [1:0:0] SONY DVD RW DRU-810A 1.0a

There is a firmware update for your drive. It is version 1.0e and it can be downloaded here. You may want to see if that corrects your problem if switching to the Verbatims doesn't.

  7. Did the tray eject right away and then you had to wait for it to become ready or did it take that long for the tray to eject. From the log file it appears that the tray ejected as it was supposed to do but it took to long for it to become ready after it closed.

One other thing. And this could be your problem. Do not use anything but Verbatim +DL discs. Verbatim is the only +DL disc that is any good. I'm guessing that the tray ejected correctly as the log shows but when the tray went back in, the drive had a problem reading the disc.

  8. Hahahaha, I was searching on the board and all of a sudden the drive popped right open and closed it self and now it is verifying the sectors. Thanks for your time and effort Movie Junkie.
I'm glad that it's OK but it still shouldn't have taken as long as it did. If it happens again please post the log here and I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

  9. You are correct. The drive is supposed to open and then close prior to the verification of the disc.

What other programs do you have running while you're using ImgBurn? It sounds like something else is keeping the drive from working.

Also please post the log here.

  10. First, I must say that ImgBurn is an amazing program by far the best that I have seen. I have one small problem though, after burning an image it stalls at cycling tray before verify? What should I do?
Hi Snipe. Welcome to the forum. 01welcome7jb.gif

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. Does the tray cycle? If so please tell us what you mean by stalling.

  11. Im planning to buy some DL disc and it seems like Ive either have to settle with paying some 30 SEK (3.25 EUR) for Jewel case dics or 26 SEK (2.82 EUR) for Cakebox discs. Any difference between those discs?

Or if anyone knows where I can get those discs cheaper, please tell me. :innocent:

And youp, the price also has to include shipping to sweden. <_<

    Thanks :D

I have been using both without any problems. They appear to be exactly the same. When I got my first spindle I checked the media code and it was the same as the media in the jewel cases. I haven't checked it since so I don't know if it has changed but, as I said before, I've had no problems.

Btw...make sure you buy the +DL and not the -DL discs.

  12. I even just tried a reallu old dvd (thought maybe it was some kind of protection issue?) and it is still giving me an error at 50 %???

We can't discuss the copying/ripping of movies here, but you should not be using anything other than Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. No matter what you are using it for, Verbatim is the ONLY good DL media.
  13. Welcome to the ImgBurn forum urbanriot.

For your DL burning the ONLY media you should be using is Verbatim DVD+R DL. Try a few and see if the problems go away.

Here in Canada a 50-pack of Verbatim DL is around $145 including taxes. These Memorex discs are on sale for $60... and I've successfully burned and verified at least 35 of them with zero problems.

That is quite expensive. I can buy a 20-pack for under $35.00. We don't have the 50-pack here yet.

The question you have to ask yourself is, is it worth saving the money if the discs won't hold up. All of the testing that has been done here point to the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs as being the only reliable DL media. I personally have used well over 500 Verbatim +DL discs and have not had any problems with them.

  14. I remember James Brown when he was know as "James Brown with the Famous Flames". I remember his hit record "Please, Please, Please" which came out in 1956. If I remember correctly it was his first hit record. I will miss him. o4fsad.gif

  15. Anyway, it looks like the diners survived my cooking. The only after effect is the stuffing repeating a bit, due to a bit too much garlic!!!

    :whistling:

There can NEVER be too much garlic. g030.gif
