  1. I'm trying to xflash an M1015 card to IT mode. Unfortunately, the second step requires a UEFI shell, and although my motherboard (GA970A-UD3P) has one on offer, it's apparently invocable only from Win8(!) which doesn't help me since my machines run XP. So I'm wondering, since ImgBurn seems to be the Swiss Army knife of cd burning software, is there some way I can write a cd such that it will boot to SHELLX64.EFI ?
  2. I got caught by that misleading "download" button too, and resented it. Since the stuff underneath the button has no value to anyone but the sponsors, the sponsors have to trick people into clicking it. But that ImgBurn passively goes along with such unethical behavior doesn't feel good.
  3. Not really. ImgBurn itself could modify the name(s) in the usual way editors do when saving a backup history: append .1, .2 etc. Enormously more convenient for the human. Or, to be really posh, allow the human to select the garnish. In my case, since I was already using a dot, I'd have chosen an underscore: fonts.type1, fonts.type1_2, fonts.type1_3, etc.
  4. It'd be nicer to have the checkbox.
  5. I'd like to be able to add multiple copies of the same file to a dvd burn, so that if something damages one area of the disc, I can still read from another. There doesn't seem to be any way to do that. The "optimise duplicates" is already turned off, yet when I try to add the second copy (a subtree full of font files) it helpfully tells me that the directory already exists. It would be yet helpfuller were there a "do it anyway" checkbox.
  6. Speaking of "proper access to the machine", are there any plans to port it to Xwindows & freeBSD (or even Linux, whose binaries fBSD will run in compat mode)? As far as I know, it'd have no competition. I'd buy a copy like a shot.
  7. I think I discovered the problem, but it makes no sense to me. Perhaps it'll make sense to you: The mamaboard, an ASUS Sabertooth (stupid name) 990FX R2 allows 6 of its 8 sata ports to be designated as external in the bios, which I did. I had the dvd drive hooked up to one of the other two ports, but it was designated external too (I've not experimented to find out why). Evidently the drive doesn't like being hooked to an extern port, because it produced the problems that brought me here AND it refused to allow me to install freeBSD from it. I switched the drive to one of the designatable ports reverted to internal, and now everything appears to work normally. I find that uncanny, not to mention uncouthy.
  8. Neither dropping it to 16x nor switching to a TY DVD did any good. Judging by the surface of the disc, something is happening, but trying to get a listing gets a "please insert disc" response. 11. The new mamaboard for my dev machine has no floppy support, so I need to make a bootable cd that has my copy of SpinRite on it. (If it's not familiar to you, SpinRite is a well-regarded disc-exerciser and -recovery utility) What I did was: - using v2.5.7.0, extracted a copy of the boot file from my copy of XP. - first try: created an iso image with SpinRite.exe as the only content, built a cd using the boot file and the iso image. It failed verification. - second try: built an iso image with the boot file and spinrite.exe as its only content, and wrote it to cd. It too failed verification Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but I've no clue what.

  13. Something evidently broke something good, because even after un-commenting that driver, XP would load, but hang. So I ended by reinstalling XP. I installed 2.5.7 on top of 2.5, and still have the same 'can't lock' problem. Do I need to have another go?
  14. I still have no idea what that driver does, but XP really loves it. I commented it out and now get nothing but the BSOD. I can't even bring up the box in safe mode. I'm going to have to port the drive over to this box (fBSD) and clean it up here.
  15. Still getting the same error with the latest-and-greatest bits.
  16. Sorry, I meant it creates coasters when I tell it to go ahead anyway. I'll install the latest version, but unless Microsoft did an update behind my back that broke the current version, the current version should still be working fine.

I've also looked through the process list to see whether I could spot anyone who might have their fingers on the divice, but again no joy. I even closed down my copy of Slickedit, since it has an annoying habit of not letting loose of its files even after they're closed. I'm baffled!
