I am unclear on what the Microsoft updates are about. I have searched Microsoft Knowledge Base for Windows XP. I cannot seem to find anything for Serial ATA, SATA, Si 3114, or nforce4. All three drives have now developed a new annoying warning message from imgburn: "DeviceIoControl(IOCTL_STORAGE_MCN_CONTROL) Failed! - Media change notification has NOT been disabled." Thanks. What a great feature. This disc that fails to verify on the new Plextor 755SA and my old 716SA. However it does verify successfully on my Benq 1640. Is my DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert nForce 4 SATA not compatible with SATA drives or are both my SATA drives now broken?

I checked the Plextor website and no boards from DFI appear to have been tested. But my previous motherboard (K8N Neo2 Platinum) was compatible with both my 716SA and 755SA drives. Maybe I should buy a 4th DVD burner (IDE)? The DFI UT Lanpart DR-Expert SLI has a Silicon Image 3114 controller but it only appears to work in a RAID configuration. How can I verifying the DVD with a different drive? What software would I use? Or do you mean simply watching it? Thanks Cuber....

It is just like old times again. I have been making coaster after coaster. I had to take a break as I was out of money and Verbatim DVD+R DLs. I have since spent another $500 on this computer. But of course the second BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC (PCIe video adapter) was not meant to fix this problem. However I did try replacing my RAM with 2 x 1GB Mushkin Redline PC-4000. Also I have pulled out my 200 Gb Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA drive and stuck in an old 40GB Western Digital Caviar WD400EB drive in its place for testing purposes. Should a 5400 RPM hard drive be good enough or should I replace it with 7200 RPM? I found a Plextor 760A review from June 06. http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/87359/plextor-px760a.html "...a 6.4x speed translates into 16 minutes to burn 8GB of data, whereas an 8.8x speed burns it in 11 minutes... But it's ultimately eclipsed by the LG GSA-H10N. At ?34, it was easily the fastest drive on show. Single-layer discs burnt at 12.7x for both +R and -R, and dual-layer DVDs at 8.8x and 6x. "

Does a successful verify mean a good quality burn? If so I would like to let you know that I have had great luck burning 100+ Verbatim +DL at 6x on my Plextor 716SA. I do not think I had a single failure (except for the last 2 weeks, where the wheels have fallen off). The graphs and charts say there is nothing special with Plextor any more?

The average consumer usually assumes the latest model is the best? My knowledge of drives is low. The big sales pitch on the 760 is it burns single layer 18x. Of course will it do it on the disc I use? Is that disc in production? If so does it cost an arm and leg? Is it in North America? I hope someone who makes all the graphs in Drives and Media section can give me an educated answer? I hope they read the chat section. When I saw the form titles I thought I would post this question in Drives and Media but after seening the content there, I thought it was better in imgburn support section. Now for some reason its in a section where jokes and Doctor Who postings are the most popular.

I have reseated Plextor (SATA) many times. I can try borrowing another cable from a friend to eliminate it as a possibility. The Benq (ATA) is on a flat 80 conductor cable. I also tried a rounded 80 conductor cable too. It is the only drive on the cable and is plugged into the end. The jumper is set to master. The RAID on the motherboard is disabled in BIOS. Ok until I get this problem resolved it will only be 2.4x burns. I followed the FAQ on DMA and uninstalled the controller. I read my comments from an earlier post and see how what I said could be confusing. Is this what you mean to remove the channel? I am using the NVIDIA nForce3 250 Parallel ATA Controller (v2.6) and NVIDIA nForce3 250 Serial ATA Controller (v2.6). Are there compatibility problems with this driver?
