  1. Thanks! I haven't used the quick ok in a while as I really didn't know what it did. I just use the Ok button. If I don't tick (enable) "preserve full path name" I have to leave it in the same folder with the source files. So when the queue is opened and you load a saved queue, it will not load it in if you moved the .cue file without ticking (enabling) "preserve full path name".

I have a question regarding the edit function regarding tracks, titles,... After you make changes to say one track and you have to change more, do you simply go to the next tracks and ImgBurn automatically saves the changes? It must be that way because there is no save changes button other than Ok, and if you hit that it takes you directly to the next phase of creating the .cue.  I was messing around with that yesterday for a long while because of one track having some character that couldn't be processed/parsed. It would create the .cue file without that track unless you edited it correctly. I couldn't for the life of me see how to save the changes until by accident I guess I proceeded with Ok and it finally took.

Is there a reason other than anticipating the changes were made why a confirmation wasn't implemented? You could be in there for a really long time not knowing changes are made on the fly. The guide mentions the refresh button after editing. Is that the save button? Maybe I hit that by accident and finally was able to include that file?

Has anyone suggested a save function after editing? Wouldn't be a bad implementation.

Please let me know the correct method for editing and saving. Thanks as always.

  2. Ok. Excuse the delay. Getting things ready for the new build. Bought the AMD Ryzen 5 2600, and the Asrock B450M Pro 4 Mobo. Next is the SSD drive and Ram. I noticed many of these apps don't make use of the GPU card, and instead use the CPU. Well 6 cores will take care of this. Lol!

I noticed burning an Audio .cue with Imgburn that the cue file always has to stay with the original files to point to them. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of making one in the first place? Or it's just for burning purposes? It won't burn either if the files are not in the same folder.

  3. I see. It also actually makes for a smoother transition. I would have to test seamless and see what happens. I imagine it just makes it even more unnoticeable?

All day playing with AVStoDVD and finally sought what may be a fix for their preview window not displaying video.

Anyway I'm seriously thinking about calling Dell and arranging for a pay schedule on a new PC. I always say that, though after building it's very difficult to go back to buying. Now the question is Intel or AMD CPUs? Intel supposedly for gaming has some edge, though for multitasking etc... AMD is said to be the player. I need a CPU, RAM, and a Mobo. Also a SSD drive for the system and apps. I like that setup you have. It's just right. Not exaggerated and not a lacky either. I started with Intel. Maybe it was just that Windows was still a baby and I got really frustrated with all the errors, closing up of windows, and of course ie that was never anything to brag about. Supposedly the new Edge with Chromium is coming and supporting 4K streaming natively. Hmmm!

Well I've burned over half my spindle of Verbatim DL, and half of a newer DVD-5 +R. My series collection are almost finished. Debating on some titles. I'm watching Full Metal Jacket. Hilarious! I needed a break. Did I mention I burned Once Upon a Time in America after 10 hours of encoding with DVD Flick? It takes forever though it produced. If I was a software guru I'd change the encoder and really have something to talk about!

Sometimes we get caught up with these apps trying to make them do something they're not meant to. The only thing I would do now is embed the subtitle into a converted MP4 etc... then take that same file and make a DVD out of it. Or soon a Blu-ray or AVC playable DVD. That's a good strategy for discs already in our possession. Otherwise in about 5 minutes you could have a download. Thing is downloads don't come with embedded subs. They should.

  4. Ok. When burning to DVD+DL with a whole VTS folder taking up space, is imgburn the only software that asks for a layer break all the time? If so is it precautionary to make sure you get a proper burn? I explained before that I let the VSO ConvertXToDVD do everything and it did it without asking for any layer break. Also I ask because whenever I had to burn to DL with DVD-RB Pro set up for ImgBurn, If I'm not present it will not burn it because I need to provide the layer break info. Is this an ImgBurn default function? I'm going to burn a copy of an iso I made with ImgBurn with something else and see if it asks for a layer break.

  5. If the layer break, the one ImgBurn prompts for is not really needed then why does it automatically come up? Are you saying that if the software that created the VTS folder files automatically made it seamless that ImgBurn would just burn it without asking for a layer break? Something doesn't sound right. If the file was burned by the authoring software without any further input from me, why would ImgBurn still ask for a layer break? This is what happens when DVD-RB Pro is set to burn as a DVD DL, if I'm not present it will not finish the job. I think ImgBurn is playing safe as the firmware will acknowledge the DL blank and burn it accordingly.

I think you meant how ImgBurn identifies because my OS is Windows 10.

I still don't know why software developers stay hung up on older OS and just don't concentrate on making their software the best for the current OS? Let the consumer, customer, user, upgrade. I'm glad MS woke up and started doing just that. It's difficult enough to keep current with everything involved with the current, and still want to placate those stuck on XP for example. I think this is why many freeware are not that consistent, especially Video software. I also believe it hinders one from playing with the advanced newer stuff. Hence stuck on h.264 etc... when h.265 HEVC and 4K is here. No wonder a particular software I use to me is lacking. It's me. They're into the future. I'm still fussing with the more known and so familiar. I still have no real clue as to Blu-ray structure etc... Imagine ultra 4k is here.

On that note, I installed DVD Flick and it seems to be up to date. AVStoDVD works when it wants to. When it does it's great! When it doesn't you wasted 3 freaking hours so it can err out! This is why VSO is very good at what it does.

  6. I really do hope so, as they're pretty much the most reliable outfit regarding DVD encoding, burning, creating. Especially with default settings. I never used their 2 pass or quality settings.

I have a question. Is a layer break necessary for burning Dual Layer, or is it a precautionary measure for definite output? Reason is I let ConvertXToDVD finish off a Dual Layer project and apparently no layer break was used. Or I just didn't see it, as it's done in the background?

Does that VSO downloader even work? I never got around to playing with it and seeing what and how it works.

Why does ImgBurn say I have Windows 8, when my system says Windows 10? I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually 8 and MS downloaded it as 10. ImgBurn is very accurate. If LIGHTNING UK would like to elaborate I would definitely appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm going to build me something really future proof and updated. Everything except maybe my case and burners. Windows 10 requires updated hardware more than anything.

  7. That doesn't make too much sense to go through all that trouble for a backup of an episodic DVD etc... If you want to keep it as is then just use any good ripper whether the older goodies, or newer ones like Fab, and rip to the hard drive. Then your choice of DVD-DL, or DVD-RB, or if for bit quality loss transcode to DVD-5. No sense having separate mp4, then converting again back to DVD in merge. For that just keep it as mp4 and right there merge it into one mp4, though menu goes out the window. Unless you want say how many episodes as separate files on separate discs to watch separately? Best to keep them on one DVD and use Menu to watch whatever. Right there in ConvertXtoVideo you can merge and produce DVD. Better yet if you want put that episodic DVD in VidCoder and it'll produce separate MP4 as well, not sure if there's function to keep as one file. I think they implemented that, and the h.264 works.

  8. You forgot that I mentioned this in a earlier post where they won't admit it but I don't think they want to pay the royalty fees associated with the h .26 4 encoding. You saw how the regular mpeg-4 took the video like anything correct? The only thing with that is that the file will be way larger than with the more efficient h.264. The thing about the title sets has to do with the MP4 output where if you put in a regular episodic DVD like I said it will make four five six different MP4 files out of each episode. That's just the way it does that, there's no way around that believe me. The only way around that is to merge all of the episodes together witch you can do. Even though they're separate mp4 file they'll still be merged together in one MP4 which isn't that bad if it's chapter DVD, though not great with episodes. I'll try unchecking that when I put in a DVD that has chapters in separate VOB files. That's where it'll act up when converting to mp4 etc..., It'll put each VOB file in a separate container.

Bottom line we need to have an arsenal of software that deals with the things that we do because sooner or later even the best will get trumped up with even a regular file for whatever reason. I've been messing around with AVStoDVD and it will not acknowledge dual audio files in a mp4 file and so it'll error out right at the beginning. I didn't know what was causing it until today when I realized that you only have preferences for what language you would like the audio to be in and not some default where it'll just accept whatever and separate that from the get-go. Great alternative to VSO ConvertXToDVD though. Give it a go. It's free and uses HCEnc and ffmpeg as encoders. They suggested I leave it at default settings, though it's overkill imo. The default for HCenc is 2 pass, and I didn't see any improvement from just 1 pass. HCenc is better imo than ffmpeg. VSO has an optimization where it's CBR with FFmpeg produces very nice and small DVD outputs.

I sent VSO an email regarding any future upgrade/update to that ConvertXtoVideo. Believe me the h.264 is just one issue. It also has issues with certain Pascal architecture GPU cards, which yours and mine are on the list. We both have the same GPU card, yours is the larger RAM edition. You'll notice when you use it with different containers how sometimes the optimization will go on and not go on. Don't buy ConvertXtoVideo until after they upgrade it to something other than 2.88.

  9. I noticed some glitches on a DVD I burned in Max, though I seriously think it was the copy and not the burn. You're right my LG at lower speeds doesn't produce good burns. It even posts 10x I think with the DL blanks. I'm having a time of it separating Titles into genres as many overlap. I think for Series DVDs I'll rename all to Film Series and put them there. I wish the program would do it for you. It justs imports it in. You have to name the genre. Other limitation is the title is limited to 16 characters. I just use date and time and write the name on the disc when I have to.

  10. Yeah those Shiny VX Verbatim are their bottom of the barrel print series. I should of paid attention to the "great for duplication market" description. I guess there's some way of making print copies w/out a high grade printer. Those silver inkjet also come as non Data Life Plus and are the bottom of the barrel for those. Unless it's Data Life Plus I'd recommend anyone to stay away from unless you're in that distribution market.

When burning Data to the DL is it still suggested to burn at a lower speed? Or is that suggestion just for DVD material, especially VTS folders? In other words are they just that different from their DVD-5 brethren where even a 24x will yield great results and playable? Thanks.

  11. If you been using the Data Life Series then you probably used these:

    https://www.verbatim.com/prod/optical-media/professional-optical/dvdrecordable/dvd-recordable-silver-inkjet-printable-sku-95186/

The VX Shiny are at the bottom of the barrel, and the regular silver inkjet somewhere in between. Yes they're making several similar flavors and in different packaging as well. They either come in their default Verbatim purple, orange, blue packaging or in those clear black and white packaging. So even their product ID changes because of the packaging.

  12. Could these be the ones you mentioned? They're silver and actually look better than the Shiny Verbatim VX.

    DVD-R 4.7GB 8X DataLifePllus Silver Inkjet Printable - 50pk Spindle

Today I enter DVD DL burning territory and so off to the guides I go. All my episodic DVDs deemed favorite will go there. DVD-RB Pro does an excellent job though some are hitting 8GB, and that's a lot of compression, encoding, transcoding.

I narrowed down what's being burned and to what more or less. I'll have to study Blu-ray more to really understand what it entails and of course get a Blu-ray burner at that time.

  13. These are them, unless there's another.

    DVD-R 4.7GB 16X VX Shiny Silver 50pk Wrap

I was surprised. When I mentioned peel it was that the liquid you see gives the appearance of being split. It just fell and most likely landed on its edge. That's either the dye used for printing or the Azo dye, more likely the former.

I forget about the enclosure. You would have to buy another one and their more expensive than the burner?

  14. That might be true though the Data transfer from USB is not the same I think I read somewhere. It can't be faster than straight from the SATA port on the Mobo. If it was then external drives or even internal ones hooked up would be able to hit that speed, unless it's that limit you mentioned. Well since they're external heck you could swap them out whenever. Are the USB ports only on the back?

Forgot to mention that those Shiny Verbatim discs have that thermal liquid in between and so any drop just cracks it. You could see the liquid flowing. No more of those.

  15. I'm going to have to think of a new strategy for burning and backing up my collection. I'm just finishing up going nuts because I have a disc library and I was trying to do everything on the fly instead of putting everything in the library afterwards. I also don't need both the MP4 and DVD copy of the same flic for all. We do need to backup though, as twice I found cracks on my DVD. One I thought was a scratch and wouldn't go away. It was cracked. Luckily I just finished backing it up previously. Earlier one of those Shiny Verbatim fell and it started to peel, as if the coating was coming off! No more shiny Verbatim for me. The 8x DL are on their way. I don't know how they cost $100 bucks on Verbatim and just $47 something more or less on Amazon?

How do you plug your drive in for power? Have you thought of putting a sata card in the back and hooking it up via SATA instead of USB? I got a glimpse of how cheap or delicate those Shiny Verbatim are. Garbage.

  16. Here's a quick clip of a burn just now.

Ok so there's 2 things at work with the speed of a burn. 1. The physical Burner and what it can actually max out to. 2. The physical disc and what it can actually max out to. 3. Which is like an extra is what the blank will max out to with a particular burner. So what they try to do is state an average that has been tested between different blanks. 4. Which is a definite thing to look out for is the burning software. ImgBurn just went through this here disc in a tad over 5 minutes @11.2 avg. and tops at 16.1. Believe me that this other software I use says 16x is being used, though it doesn't finish until about 20 minutes give or take. There's too many factors to really see what's what. I'm doing as you suggested and if it plays it stays. Next one I'll hit Max on ImgBurn and see what the avg. is and what it tops out at.

ImgBurn Rocks! Here's the burn stats. Pretty much blew right through this DVD file. Now I really know it hits 24x.

  17. I forgot that you had mentioned about Dell not installing half height Bay's anymore. Yes the limitation is on the external burners after all! They will not go a certain speed I guess unless it said on the box when you bought it that it was 24x capable. if it didn'tsay that on the box when you bought it they will not go that speed at all the drive when it comes out the manufacturer has to have the ability to go that speed and then coupled with the blank they'll both figure out if they'll go up to that speed together that's why I mentioned that they must have a contract with verbatim because they suggested using their brand with the writer that I bought and also it came with that burning suite that I mentioned before. I've used the suite and that's the one way I say it sounds like it's ready to take off from an airline ramp! LOL! Image burn shows me the speed as it's going in progress though and that's a big big plus! so that's why I could look at the speeds when reading and like I said yesterday it went up to 19 on the read rate so I wouldn't be surprised that it went more or less to 24 on the write rate. I will check that out with some Data. You know that I'm trying to burn DVDs as data, how would I go along doing that? I don't think it takes away from the structure does it? Imgburn will automatically see it's a DVD and create an image during build mode then burn it. I used to be able to burn as data and still be playable.

  18. When you mentioned the 2 lasers with the BD Writers did you suggest that's why they don't go to 24x? They make either a DVD or Blu-ray writer according to what specifications the formats allow and they also will choose certain brands of discs to fully support and be compatible with. So when LG put out that 24x Multi DVD Writer they already tested and even more likely spoke to the manufacturer to see what could be actually accomplished.

They wouldn't put out something that couldn't perform the advertised specs, at least I don't think LG would. They also partner with burning apps. Lot of stuff goes on before they pull the trigger.

You might be correct thinking about that cap only because of the dual lasers. I try not to buy all in one of anything. With DVD and CD burners it's a bit different because they have been doing it for a while now. Try having one drive for Blu-ray and one for DVD?

Just posted and missed your post. Remember the miscompares came with discs branded for up to 16x with a Writer that can go 24x, so the slower branded media will dictate how the burner goes I would think not sure.

Which Verbatim the printable, branded, white top? Which one have you worked with? Would the branded Verbatim DVD+R DL 8x do? Huge difference in price so I would start with the better known and maybe 50pk. or less.

  19. I could be mistaken and it's that their better at recognising errors and picky about letting them through even if harmless. Remember even though one reader can pickup or let go certain reads doesn't mean their actually better. Now the Hitachi OEM burners were the ones I mentioned Dell used and I forget if LG was behind them. I'll put some stuff in my LITEON that'll give me errors and the same file will buzz through my LG.

I guarantee you will not be unhappy with that 24x Super Multi Writer as it's actually conducive to Verbatim media. You're going to get 8, 16, 24, times options with ImgBurn and others.

  20. LMAO! Yeah I believe that! It's the LG 24x Super Multi DVD Writer/ GH24. It's very good and you'll see what I mean when you put a DVD+R to write. It starts loading as if ready for warfare! Lol... Reason I even went with LG is because they're excellent readers. Most Dell will either have a Hitachi or LG OEM burner, so when I started way back then the fellas already knew about what was happening or not. I'm about to order some Dvd+DL as some new stuff I have is episodic and even though DVD Rebuilder Pro does an excellent job, the final output is not always DVD-5. Those extra 10 megs don't warrant a whole DVD+DL so might as well burn the whole thing from scratch.

Bought mine at Best Buy, though you know Amazon will have it at your door step in 2 days with Prime or2 hours if supported with Prime Now.

  21. It might not hit 24x though it steadily approaches up there. Remember I'm using DVD+R and that's where the difference if even minimal is. I know for sure that when it starts burning data I swear it sounds like it wants to fly out of the case. Also the software involved. Put some 16x DVD+R Verbatim in your drive if it's labeled for 24x. Mine is. That new LG Multi-writer I posted is stamped for up to 24x. CD it'll probably go to at least 48x. See first what specs you have. They're only about $25 or so anyway. My USB LITEON only hits 8x but it flies. Reading I won't do much on it, though I get upwards to 18-19 with the LG reading a DVD with DVDFAB. This is why I went with the+R.

  22. Lol! yes Princo is and they usually use them to sell the bootleg DVDs in the street in the neighborhood if you know what I mean. Yes I'm getting the 24 x write speed on the verbatim DVD + R using my LG DVD burner that I just purchased when I opened up the thread here and Windows 10 didn't want to acknowledge the old burner I had. I read up on that because I found it unusual and it's not only what the DVD media dictates but also they put a descriptor in there to allow certain burners to overwrite to another speed preferably higher. I leave the speed at 16x because I notice using that burner if I go any lower especially for DVDs I sometimes get those Miscompares with image burn. So I let it burn at 16x and then just let the software decide if it has to go lower or not. got in some pretty good Burns letting VSO do the whole thing all the way towards the end.

New strategy that I just thought of which is just common sense is since we can go to those sites that we all know of and get very very nice MP4 high-definition copy of whatever movie we want, might be the best thing to pick the ones we really liked and then use the best software possible to convert it to DVD because I just encountered a DVD that although some software I've had didn't say it had any copyright protection it actually did. It had the Cinavia watermark burn on the audio, which I was just able to write straight to my hard disk but something told me to open it up in dvdfab and that's when I found it. Thing is DVDFAB doesn't want to add it to their regular DVD ripping software. They're charging extra for the Cinavia removal. I'm not about to pay extra for that right now because that's very seldom any discs that I'm going to be using for that purpose. So I'm just going to be downloading whatever I like and then using either power2go or via VSO convert it to DVD with the subtitles.

  23. AHA! Just caught Verbatim at either a glitch or throwing in mixed batch of DVD+R blanks. I was updating my AWS settings in Imgburn with the DVD+R Verbatim, and after I finished I noticed only available write speed was 8x for that blank instead of 8x,16x, 24x respectively? I told you this might be happening from the same spindle mind you. Hmmm! Where do we go from there?
