  1. Thanks so much... I knew I've seen it, but was looking in the wrong place.
  2. I was attempting to backup a directory (just data), which has some *hidden* folders in it. When ImgBurn was building it, it skipped all these hidden folders. Is there some setting that I'm missing, that will enable ImgBurn to backup the entire directory? Thanks very much for any help!!!
  3. Finally had a few minutes to do a test burn. Set at 8x, like my last burn... it went up to 6X, then down and up to 8X, where it pretty much stayed 'til the end. Avg - 7.4X... Max - 8X. The buffer stayed around 100%... device buffer basically around 88-92%, with a few short burps down. As far as the buffers during real burns, the device buffer is more active, often going way down quickly, and then back up quickly. Does any of this suggest anything to you? The WOPC you mentioned, would that suggest a faulty drive, or bad media? Obviously, I can't be sure the discs are perfect, but before this, burning around 50 from this batch of TYG02, on my old drive, were all were flawless... not one coaster. Then that CD-RW thing started happening... got the new drive, and then the speed problems. Thanks for hanging in there with me
  4. I'll never understand how people can use their computer, and not show extensions. I'd bet that contributes to all the trojans, & viruses, that spread around so fast, since people are just clicking on names. Showing extensions, it would seem to me, should be the default
  5. Just wondering, if there's any other ideas about what may be going on, before I ship this drive back? I just did another burn, this time set at 8X. Other than jumping briefly to 6X, at the beginning of the burn, it stayed around 4.0X the whole burn. So, any thoughts would be appreciated... thanks!
  6. Yup... genuine... and an old version of DT (3.47). Never have been any problem before.
  7. Well, back to the drawing board. I did a burn this time set at 12x... stayed 6x or under, the whole burn. I'm really starting to think I got a lemon, since this seems to be intermittent. Anyway... here's the log, and graph... Thanks!
  8. Sure it is Lightning... if I had it, at present, I'd do the same. The time will come
  9. Happy that it worked. I suspect the reason you have the winrar logo, for iso files, is because isos are associated with WinRar. So when you try to open them, winrar shows the contents.
  10. Thanks, volvo. I normally have it set at 8x, but wanted to test the new drive. My old 112D would always hit 12x, when I set it to max, but speed isn't as essential to me, as a quality burn, so normally I just set it at the speed rating of the media. I'll be doing a burn a bit later, and will try it at 12, and see what happens. Next one I'll go back to 8x, for good
  11. This whole thing of the iso file being a zip file, is a bit strange. I just found 7luj19uc.iso, at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67989.html. And it is an iso file, with an iso extension. Is that the file you're looking for? If so, don't open it in WinRar, just add it to ImgBurn (as it is) in Write mode. And burn it.
  12. Thanks, LIGHTNING! I always like the explanations I never burn with TMPGenc... always ImgBurn. So, I assume all it can do, is interfere in some way, and it's best to remove it... correct? You do realize this may be my last question
  13. Not sure if this will help, but are you using WinRar to open your zip files? WinRar will open iso files, so it's possible that when you're extracting the iso, the contents of the iso are being extracted, instead of the full iso itself. You might try going into settings of WinRar, and to the integration tab, and unchecking *iso* ... then try extracting the full iso again.
  14. There is a freeware app *Unlocker,* which will tell you what program is *using* the file. It can also *unlock,* or copy the file, which may help.
  15. Awww, don't be so hard on ye olde thing - a finely tweaked Athlon XP 1800 Seriously, though, the burn was unlike any I've ever seen. The speed would go in increments of 2X, then go down 4X, stay for awhile, then back down... then up 4X. Obviously, my ignorance of the burn process shows, but I've never seen a burn with *steps,* like the graph shows. Is that normal with some drives? In my experience, *normal* is a pretty steady max speed. But I like the drive... it's much quieter than the Pioneer, for whatever quietness is worth. And that CD-RW issue... all the discs are now again CD-RW, so it WAS the drive. One other question, in my CD-RW thread, I was told to remove the pxhelp20 filter. Does this remove it from just ImgBurn, or my whole system? I checked my install logs, and it seems TMPGEnc DVD Author installed it. I use v1.6, since my computer is a bit long in the tooth, and don't want to neuter the program. Thanks again for all your help! Reading a lot of posts here, all you guys/gals are great, unlike so many support forums, where there's so much condescension & impatience. The next brew's on me Later... did another burn, and again, it goes straight to 6x, then goes down to 3, up to 8, down to 3, then up to 10, down, and finishes around 12. Other than that behavior, the burner's great.
  16. I decided to update the firmware. Better speed, but still kind of strange. Speed would go up and down a lot. Does this burn look normal? Again thanks!
  17. I was having problems, a while back, with cd-rws becoming cd-roms after burning... remember I decided to return the old drive (112D), and got an Optiarc 7200A, as a replacement (always had better luck with NEC than Pioneer). The new drive seems to be reading ok, but when I did a test DVD burn (with TYG02 media), it burned very slow. I checked everything DMA - I have the drive as Primary Slave - shows up as ULtra DMA4. Uninstalled the IDE Controller (as per the faq). Detached all connections from the drive, and reset them. Then did another test burn... slow again. The 2nd time, it got up to 10x briefly, then went down & stayed at 4X. I've done everything I can think of, and am thinking it's a defective drive. Any ideas? Any tests I can run, that might show it's the drive? I didn't upgrade the firmware yet, since it's new, and didn't want yo possibly void any exchange. Any help appreciated... thanks!
  18. I bought it less than a year ago, from newegg. So, they'll replace it, I suspect, with a 115, since the 112 is discontinued.
  19. I don't really know much, about the difference of the +-R... I use -R, which is more compatible with older players. I believe Everest is a labeliing technology. Supermediastore is probably the most recommended online site for TY media. I used to buy mine there, but I found a reputable dealer, locally, so now I just pick them up... http://www.checkoutstore.com/... you can compare prices. As long as you write on top of the disc, I don't think a sharpie is a problem... but there are others here, that may know better
  20. @Alice - you failed to mention the format of the movie. Is it avi, vob (DVD), mpg, etc? If it's avi, you can easily split the video into two parts, with any number of programs. VirtualDub would be a good choice. Other formats have programs, too. The key is, how important the video quality is. The more you shrink the size, the lesser the quality. So, if you don't mind 2 dvds, then just splitting it, rather than compressing it, would be your move. -Or- you can use a program like ConvertXtoDVD, to convert it to one of your DVDs.
  21. @Lightning... Those speeds, are the speeds that show up, after the burn that seems to make the discs CD-ROM... when I try to do a forced erase, and it asks me to choose the format. The actual rating of those disks are up to 4X - - I took a bunch of them from work, a while back - - so they're not recent discs. @dontasciime... not exactly sure what the SPTD layer is, other than it was probably installed with Daemon. But, nothing's changed in my system, other than upgrading to the new version of ImgBurn. I did a search on my system for sptd.sys, and it came up empty... as well as checking in my registry, in current control set/services... nothing. @blutach... nah, I never played with this drive, only flashed the firmware, with *real* Pioneer firmware. I've tried to erase the discs with another computer... a no go. All that said, I'm starting to wonder if my 112D is the culprit... when I put a new disc in, it's lagging more than normal, in reading the disc profile. Whereas my laptop, immediately gets the profile with an older, inferior drive. Not sure if I'll exchange (I still have a few months), or just get a newer model. Any recommendations on a new drive, since you guys know a helluva lot more than me And thanks so much, for hanging in there with me! Did a quick search, reviews seem to favor the Sony Optiarc AD-7200A, and the DVR-115D, which I suspect will be what I get, if I return my old 112D. But, I'm open to any suggestions
  22. The log of a failed burn is at the bottom. I just changed that setting. I have one more disc left, and will do a test. Yup, I tested it on a laptop... same thing. Thanks for the thought about your old 112... hopefully, it was that OPC setting, whatever that is
  23. I'd go TY Premium for the few cents more a disc. Also, no need to go to the expense of 16X discs. My 8X disks, if I set ImgBurn to Auto Write speed, will write at over 12X (flawlessly). Notice the Disc profile in ImgBurn, of the 8X discs... the supported write speeds: If I recall, the 16X will write at 18X, if your drive can handle it.
  24. Yup... of course, i tried (numerous times). The normal popup would appear, saying it will erase everything... then I'd get a popup to choose the type of media... then it would say it's an incompatible format. I posted the log above... I'll post another one below. It's cheap stock - - Maxell. Says CD-RW on the box & disk. As I said, I tested another new disk, just dropping it onto my drive, in XP (Win Explorer), and it burned fine. Then, I erased it (with ImgBurn), and then loaded the same file into ImgBurn... it read the disk profile as CD-RW... I burned it, then the profile said CD-ROM, and I can't erase it. It's strange, because I've done it a thousand times with ImgBurn, with no problems, until I updated it last week (from 2.40 to 2.41). Maybe I'll try uninstalling, and doing a clean reinstall of it. The profile as ImgBurn reads the CD-RW now: And the burn log of this disk (did a test *burn* first)... it does say the destination media type is CD-RW:
