  1. If it's an image, just assume the one with SPLIP = false to be the original LB. So basically that's the one you should select.

ImgBurn is better now at finding the LB without the need for the MDS - but it's still not perfect.

In your case however, it appears to have worked just fine.

There is no way for anyone other than you to know which is the best one for the job, every project is different. Of course not every project will have the same options or colours of stars available so don't think you must follow EXACTLY what was done in the guide.

The whole idea of the 'preview' button is so you can look through the choices and make an informed decision.

Ok understood and thank you. I read in another thread while searching for answers that you can't select the layer break when burning a ISO to DVD, that you are only able to display them from the tools/ISO menu. So what does it do when it burns the ISO to Disc if two options for layer break are displayed? This is the same ISO I mentioned in post #1

  2. Hello and thanks again for ImgBurn

The ISO is from a DL DVD Video and does not include a MDS file. If I burn it as is, I'm sure it will play fine. Past ones have. However, from things I've read here I understand a image that requires a DL DVD should have the MDS file so the layer break information will be up to spec.

But just creating a MDS file for the ISO file isn't good enough correct?

Should I extract the files from the ISO and make a new ISO with ImgBurn so I can select the break?

Also a question about the layer break regarding same image. It gives me two options if I were to burn it using the image only. One has the Good (Gold Star) rating but no SPLIP and the other is Average and yes SPLIP. From a thread I read here describing SPLIP is that a yes means seamless. However I read in the guide for creating a DL ISO on your Hard Drive that the one with the no SPLIP should be selected which had a Blue Star. The other ones were the Gray Star with a yes in SPLIP. It would be nice for the break to be virtually seamless and isn't that indicated by the yes in SPLIP? Which should I choose?

  3. thanks though, that log is long gone. It was a pop up message box telling me the image wasn't made correctly as Lightning recognized earlier in this thread. Sorry I couldn't be more descriptive, but what you mentioned about no cell being a proper break would make sense. Thank you.

  4. It wasn't made with shrink thanks. Spinningwheel, I posted a question to understand the features of layer break options. There is no reason to post a log file which I don't have. If you read my post again you'll see I solved the problem by taking the image file back to the raw files so a layer break was correctly made to dvd specs.

What I don't understand is creating a layer bread from the vob files which is also a option checkbox.

  5. I have a ISO/MDS DVD-9 image file set. I attempted to burn with ImgBurn and it said the image

file was not in the correct format for burning to a dual layer DVD. It also mentioned something about

the layer break. There was a message box that popped up and I could proceed with the burn or

cancel the burn. I cancelled it and then mounted the image and ripped a new iso/mds. The same

thing happened so I ripped the files to a video_ts folder and used imgburn to burn it that way.

So that worked correctly and gave me an option to select a layer break.

What I would like to know is that if I had told it to go ahead and burn the DVD the first time

I got that error message, what would have happened? I'm sure it would have burned it fine

and I just don't understand that message and what it really means. Could you explain please?

    Thanks very much.

  6. Isn't there an option not to use a layer break so you don't have that pause? I think I've seen that option and unsure about using it. If so, why would anyone want a layer break? That pause is annoying sometimes depending on the scene. Could we get some more info on that and also the vob option which I don't understand at all. Thanks very much. :D

  7. Hello once again.

I am making an DVD Video ISO for other people. It is for many people, so I can't ask each one. It is a single layer DVD and I don't know whether to set the media option on a -R or +R disc. I see it defaults to the -R. I thought the +R are usually recommended and are most common.

What setting should I use? Thank you.

  8. one issue with that drive might be it's ability to read dual layer at 12x, setting a lower read speed might be helpful in reading the data back

whether it would obey that command is another matter

    anybody good with japanese?

my browser is but it's not a very good teacher :)

i've tried to read me dvd's by making an image. been through about 40 without a glitch. sometimes you just need some luck.

  9. the issue with these discs, besides being Ritek, is the bad ones fail near the outer edge (these are dual layer) or about half way through the sectors when verifying.

see this thread where I was getting I/O errors. Can I still do what you say?

  10. Unfortunately I've burn many DVDs without verifying each one, or about 50 total. I want to go back and check them now to see if anymore are bad. Is there a easy way of doing that without having to try to make a image with each one?

  11. great, thanks for the apprentice training :) I was curious how they were burned and that will help me in future issues. I've had never bought any DVD besides Verbatim in all these years excluding this one time when I trusted Sony. Goes to show when something works, leave it alone.

Thanks everyone for your help here. I'm slowly learning all the features of Imgburn. I think its a great tool and I recommend it to my friends and acquaintances. Their replies are very positive. Thanks for a great tool, just as DVD Decrypter still is.

  12. I 16:18:50 Source Media Type: DVD+R DL (Book Type: DVD-ROM) (Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x)

Here's your problem. A little searching would have told you to get only Verbatim 2.4X dual layer blanks (MKM-001 MID). The inferior blanks some shop assistant has sold you have errored out on the edge (where they are most likely to burp)

    Regards

Thanks for your reply to my problem. I was surprised to see Ritek. I really thought when I bought these Sony DL DVD at Best Buy that they would have been Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. I have seen bad reports from other Ritek media, but since Sony had their label on this I was hoping they had chosen a good mfg. Other media I have bought from them were mfg by Taiyo Yuden. But I do realize that you never know until you get home and open the package to put one in your computer and check. I think I will just buy my DL media online now since I can choose what I want.

What in the log tells you they errored on the edge?

  14. Hello and thank you for imgburn

I have Anydvd installed and see your note when I open Imgburn regarding disabling it.

I use Imgburn to burn image files with a mds file. I close Anydvd and then use Imgburn.

I right click on the mds file and select burn with Imgburn, but when it verifies it finds several I/O errors.

Even though I closed anydvd down does something still have control or should I have disabled it before closing? Odd.

Because I burn with Alcohol 120% and then Imgburn verifies the image file ok. Only when I burn with Imgburn does the verify return errors.

    again to clarify:

I burn it with Alcohol 120, then verify with Imgburn and it verify no problems.

I burn it with Imgburn and verify with Imgburn and has many I/O errors with same image file as used with Alcohol 120.

This has been the case with 2 image files (*.iso + *. mds)

Is this because Anydvd is installed?

Also, I see the mds Imp ID is Apple Computer. Could this be a Mac / PC issue with the MDS or IMG file?
