  1. UPDATE: I tried burning a fourth time on an identical DL DVD and it burned flawlessly. Here's what I did differently: 1) I rebooted my computer 2) I burned at 2x speed instead of AWS So it's either setting the write speed to 2x did the trick, or the fact that I rebooted my computer, or that I just happened to get a higher quality more cooperative DVD. I do have 2 different packs of the same DVD+R DL Verbatim DVD's, a 20-pack and a 50-pack. Over the years, I would take one out randomly from one of the two packs. Yesterday I combined them all together into the 50-pack case. Maybe one batch is good and the other isn't. Anyone, happy that I got it to work. Thanks again for the help.
  2. Thank you again for taking the time out of your day to help. I noticed the lines: I 21:05:40 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x ... W 21:05:40 Write Speed Miscompare! - MODE SENSE: 2,770 KB/s (2x), GET PERFORMANCE: 3,324 KB/s (2.4x) I 21:05:40 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 3,324 KB/s (2.4x) Is it worth trying to set the write speed to 2x instead of AWS? The DVD's are 15 years old, but I expect that shouldn't be an issue. I tried burning a third DVD and got much further, but it got hung up trying to read a bunch of sectors in the final stages. It's just that nearly 50 of these DVD's, although back in the day, it probably cost me about $60 or so for the 50 pack so not the end of the world. I could try purchasing a small pack of Memorex DVD +R DL disks and see if those work? Or alternatively I could just stick with the single layer discs and put a bit less content on them. Thank you again.
  3. Thank you for lending a hand. Sorry, when I said: I meant that this was what was recommended to other people who had this issue. I have not performed any of these steps as I thought the log file might point to something else. Not sure what qualifies as a slim drive but the drive takes up a regular bay and the measurement of the edge of the tray that comes out is 5.25 inches by 1.25 inches high. The make is LG and has M. DISC written on it. Followed your suggestion and seems the driver is up to date:
  4. I have seen other post regarding this issue and it was recommended to update the driver, clean the DVD, or replace the drive. Nevertheless, I have included the log file in case a different cause is spotted (personal data replaced with ***): ================================================================================================== I 21:05:40 Operation Started! DVD's are Verbatim DVD+R DL. I had no issues burning a Memorex DVD+R SL (single layer) a few days ago, so I'm thinking problem is unique to burning DL DVD's. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Would be happy to post any additional log files.
  5. Thank you. I haven't used the software for a couple of years, so I couldn't say, though it does strike me as vaguely familiar. No filter drivers are installed. I will try turning the machine off and on again as well as removing the ide/ata controller to see if that clears it up. I did find one other person with a similar problem on this forum, albeit 13 years ago, though no solution was mentioned: https://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?/topic/12754-fomat-new-dvd/#comment-108010 I will post back with the results when I have a moment to reboot. Thank you again.
  6. Thank you. Please find attached the ImgBurn log. ImgBurn.log
  7. The software works flawlessly (thank you) but for the Label/Name shown under "Drive 1 - Info" in the log (and under Destination in the drop down menu) is identified as ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿ (D:) (ATA) instead of the name as per the device driver which is: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSC0 ATA. Is this just a case of my DVD Drive not being in the software's library or is there perhaps a corrupt registry entry? Thank you!!
  8. Is it normal that after burning the iso file to a DVD, I ended up with avi files on the DVD (which were visible for example when reading the disc from the DVD drive on my computer)? I thought when you burn an iso file to a DVD, you end up with something different, in DVD format... It almost seems like what I burned was a data DVD (even though the source file was an iso file). Or am I confused about how iso files work... HP
  9. I have 5 avi files on my camera. I used ImgBurn to create an iso file from the 5 avi files. Then I burned the iso file to the DVD. When I insert the DVD in my DVD player, I see the names of the 5 avi files. When I click on one of them to play the video, I see a message on the screen that says "Decoding". Then I hear some jumbled high pitch audio that repeats without video. Also when I insert the DVD into my computer, I see 5 avi files. It almost seems as though I burnt a data DVD, but how could I have if I burned an iso file? Totally stumped. No doubt I am doing something wrong, but everytime I retrace my steps, I can't figure out my mistake. I repeated the process three times, all three times the same result. I also tried burning the mds file with the same result. Thanks in advance to anyone who can lend a hand. HP
  10. Thank you. Actually it seems as though it was the SATA cable. I went out and bought a new cable and after replacing the old SATA cable with the new one, the drive was labelled properly when I ran ImgBurn. Before putting in the new cable though, I did run the Windows System Information utility, and I saw the following two items listed under "Hardware Resources -> I/O": Intel® 82801FB/FBM SMBus Controller - 266A Intel® 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller You were right about AHCI. Not sure what that means though? I also checked the BIOS, and these are four boot options (with a short descrtiption in parentheses): 1. RAID Autodetect/AHCI (RAID if signed, otherwise AHCI) 2. RAID Autodetect/ATA (RAID if signed, otherwise ATA) 3. RAID On (RAID on every boot) 4. Combination (SATA/PATA combination) The default boot mode is option 1. Anyway, everything is in order, so I am guessing that the controller and boot mode are OK. Looks like it won't be necessary to install the latest Intel Matrix driver and the chipset after all... :-) I'm really impressed with ImgBurn, what a great program. All the configuration options so easy to locate, plus the handy log file, and the fact that it verifies the disc before burning. Thank you for all your help. Just out of curiosity, are you one of the developers?
  11. The 'Inquiry' command is the one used to get the name of the drive etc. For some reason your machine is returning a buffer full of 'FF'. FF just happens to be that funny 'y' character. What's your drive connected to? A real motherboard chipset SATA port or a 3rd party chipset one? (i.e. jmicron) SATA drives work best when the controller is set to ATA mode rather than RAID or AHCI. Could you kindly let me know where I need to look to see if I have a real motherboard chipset SATA port or a 3rd party chipset one? Under "System Information", "Device Manager", or the do I need to enter the BIOS? For your reference, my computer is a Dell Dimension XPS Gen 4 purchased in May 2005, not sure if that says anything about the motherboard. The controller is set to the default mode, not sure what the name is. I'll reboot and take a look and post back. All I can remember is that there are three options. I don't have a RAID drive, so I guess that would rule out RAID mode. I could also try swapping the SATA cable between the new DVD drive and my hard drive to see if perhaps the new SATA cable I bought for the DVD drive is not working properly. The brand name is Dynex. Or I could just go out and buy another one, maybe that would be simpler. Are there brands that are more reliable than others?
  12. That's exactly what I did, but I guess I didn't let the log run long enough, it looked like it was repeating the last 5 lines in the log over and over, so I stopped it there, but I see now that there are some different lines if I let it run more. OK, I posted a lot more of the log file in the attached document. Thank you again Lightning. :-) HP ImgBurn_Log.txt

  14. My new Samsung SH-S203B DVD drive is showing up as "ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ" under Destination in ImgBurn (see attached screenshot). The drive burns perfectly in ImgBurn, but I was just wondering why the name of the drive was showing up like that and if there was a way to correct it. If anyone can shed some light on the matter, it would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance! HP
