Does Windows detect the drive? What does the Status bar message say? Is the drive detected when you open ImgBurn without a disc in it?

Regards

Windows does recognize the drive. The status bar says 'No Writers Detected!' I can't tell if the drive is detected, here's the log with out a disk:

You've probably got InCD or some other packet writing software running.

Ditch them/turn them off and you'll be ok.

What's InCD? I'll try to see if there are any packet softwares running on my computer, but I never intentionally downloaded/installed one.

I can't tell if the drive is detected,

The drive IS being detected, just it's not being allowed to use it.

What's InCD?

Google 'InCD' and you'll find out what it is!

If any burning software came pre-installed on your pc or you've put Roxio / Nero on, it'll probably go on with them.

Basically, the OS telling ImgBurn that it can't 'open' the drive - and the reason it gives for that is 'The device is not ready'.

You might be able to get around it by opening ImgBurn when you DON'T have a disc in the drive and then inserting it.

Whatever tool you have installed on your machine that is blocking ImgBurn, it shouldn't be able to do it if ImgBurn has already opened the device.

Please post a copy of your filter driver list too - it's in the Tools menu. Just copy to the clipboard and then 'paste' in a reply.

I had MagicISO and UltraISO, but I just uninstalled them. I don't think Roxio or anything is installed on my computer.

Here's my filter driver list.

Get rid of:

Lower Class Filter: sscdbhk5

Lower Class Filter: drvmcdb

I removed the filter, or do you mean delete it? It still says 'No Writers Detected!' as the status if I start with or without putting a disk in. Are you sure it's not the disk alone?

If you press the 'Remove' button after selecting the unwanted filter - in the filter function it's gone.

Did you restart the computer?

:)

Just restarted! But now I have a new problem! When I put my DVD in, it says 'Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)'. How can I fix this? Here's a link to DVD's that I bought. http://www.taperesources.com/VPWB-S.html

Any help now?

You only have a CD reader/writer and a DVD reader. You need to get a DVD writer. :)

Okay. Is it possible that I can write my .iso on to a CD? Could you send some links as to what CD's would be compatible with my computer?

The size of the image file is to big to be written to a CD.

Good quality CDs should work with your burner. Verbatim is one brand.

DVD burners/writers are very cheap these days.

So I could use Verbatim CD's or buy a DVD Burner/Writer? Do I specifically need either a burner or a writer or either?

You can't use any CDs if you want to burn that particular image. The only way to burn that image is through a DVD burner/writer.

I usually call those things DVD burners - but some members call them DVD writers. It's the same thing - they transfer the image file to a DVD disc.

(In Swedish we use the word burners. A writer is for me something that writes on paper).

I don't know what type of computer you have; desktop or laptop. If you have a desktop - it's very easy to install a DVD burner. If you have a laptop - go for an external burner.

For the desktop burner - get the right connection whether it's a SATA or IDE connector in the computer. I guess you have a IDE connector as the current installed CD writer/burner is rather old.
