Error DVD Player Cannot Display Disc

New and raw to Forum. Have spent 3 days reading all the Guides. Thought that I could burn a DVD-R and play it on my player without a problem, especially since I had taken the time to read all the Guides.

Wrong, Murphy's Law, it did not work. Just to not appear to be to stupid, I started at the bottom of the Forum topics at #368 and began working back. After about 30 pages I decided to stop and just ask for help.

I believe that I have done everything correctly, but evidently I have not.

When I install the burned disc into the player I get error "This type of disc cannot be displayed. Please insert a different disc."

I am sure that I have not performed 1 or more of the simple checks that IMGBURN requires. I do not know where to begin but here goes.

I performed all the tasks by IMGBURN,it burned the disc, DVD-R, and verifies ok.

Used Build feature and etc.

The loaded DVD file was a movie that I placed on my Laptop using copy and paste. All of the Video_TS's appeared in file. I did not have it loaded on my computer with IMGBURN. The copy and paste worked previously as described next.

I used this same type DVD-R previously to burn SD card movie that I had copied and pasted on the computer. The first attemp on the player gave me the same error message.

I discovered that I should have used the Window DVD Movie Maker that was on the computer instead of just coping it to the disc. The second disc played in the player.

I believe that there is an encode step that I have not applied to the IMGBURN that is necessary for the player to play.

You are probably asking, then why are you not using the Windows DVD Movie Maker ?

I prefer the IMGBURN, because of it's ease and capabilities.

The Windows DVD Movie Maker would not burn the full capacity of the DVD. The movie was 3.9GB and the Maker error stated that it would not fit on the disc.

I installed the IMGBURN.

I bought some DVD+R DL's. Placed one in the drive, started Build, and IMGBURN stated " this can be recorded on a DVD+ or -R, do you still want to record it on the DVD+R DL ?" Heck no, so I used the DVD-R.

I am sure there is an easy answer to my problem.

Can some one help ??

the log you posted wasn't a successful burn.

try burning at other supported speeds (Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

try burning using verbatim discs if that fails

remember to check verify before you burn, if it doesn't verify, it probably won't work in your player

Retry did not work.

Did I want to close out session---Yes

Burn ended with a Vocal Sound--OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH

Had not seen your reply " very before burn"

FYI-- Between my origionl post and the First Log try posted here I made another attemp using a different movie Video_TS "The Blindside". It was a successful burn on the same MFG's DVD-R. I do not know what I did right or wrong but it played on the Player.

So I tried to record the "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" using what I had did with 'The Blindside". BAM- I got the First Log posted and a Second Log above.

I will go back and "very" before trying to burn as you suggested.

I will also change speed.

As for the disc, I had a successful burn and I really do not think that is the total problem.

BUT OF COURSE "MURPHY'S LAW" AND I ARE OLD FRIENDS.

Could it be possible that something was lost in the transfer of the Video_TS movies files when I copied it to my Document Files ??

What is the best way to transfer the Video_TS files from the Movie Disc to my Documents Files ??

I use Windows Copy and Paste.

I know on 1 of the Guides it recommended using IMGBURN and explains it, but for the life me, I cannot figure out the transfer. The Image File Read/Write gets me all screwed up.

Your further assistance will be appreciated.

Thanks, John

What's the source of this stuff you're trying to burn?

Homemade movies?

If you already have them on disc (and they play in your player) and just want to make a copy, you should be following this guide:

http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=6380

Your drive keeps failing to burn that 'CMC MAG. AM3' media you're using so I suggest you just give up with that one and buy some different/better stuff. (Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden / Victor JVC)

Set the write speed to 8x, you shouldn't ever need to go lower than that on single layer media.

Lightning UK!

Source: Memorex DVD+R. Movie was copied. You can see in the logs that it was burned with Nero It plays on my Player. It's my son's and I wanted a copy.

I tried to create an Image File using your #1 Guide.

It Failed. See log below.

There evidently is a reading problem with either the RECORDED track/tracks that the Drive tries to read or the Disc is not Compatable with the Drive. [although the spec's state the drive reads DVD+R]. I know, do not go there - because from what I have read from you and the other Forum members there are recommended disc's and there are those that are not recommended. Also, I have read a number of mfgr's Drive Manuals and they agree with the Forum's choices.

The Movie that I was able to Burn was copied on a TDK DVD+R using the same Drive and Nero and done by the same person [My son tells me] I was able to copy it to a Document File and IMGBURN it to a TDK-R blank successfully.

Spinningwheel

I will buy Verbatin from now on. I drive a race car, and I know that expense is not an issue when you need the correct part.

Newegg list several Verbatin DVD+R DL's. I know they are by qty's and pkging's but there appear to be more than 2 DYE's.

To save me the hunt and be sure I get the correct Verbatin, do you know of a site where I can find the cross references for Verbatin #'s to DYE #'s.

Also. not to appear to be too stupid - which Verbatin DVD-R do you recommend ??

Looks like I have a lot of coasters for general data or the trash bin.

Thanks for your help and any further assistance will be appreciated.

When I use Verbs I use these:

http://www.meritline.com/verbatim-8x-dvd-plus-r-media-95052---p-18460.aspx

When I use Taiyo Yuden/JVC I use these:

http://www.meritline.com/jvc-dvd-r-8x-silver-thermal-lacquer-jdmr-zz-sb8---p-44989.aspx

They're not the fastest discs available from their respective manufacturers, but I like to stick with what I'm comfortable with. TY/JVC are the ones I use the most though, since I don't do discs that require either a + or - type disc.

Hope this helps.
