How do i know what discs use what...i thought they are all the same...what is MID/dye...

I 18:16:10 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: MBIPG101-R05-01) (Speeds: 3x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

This line in the log shows what the MID is as well as speeds that your burner will burn the disc at and type of disc.

MID is 'Manufacturer ID'. Disc ID / Manufacturer ID / Dye are all the same thing really. It's a unique identifier given to each different type of disc made by each manufacturer... and there are loads of them!

Like everything in this world, there are good and bad MIDs.

The good ones are typically the most expensive.

Good ones are often associated with the likes of Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden and now Victor JVC (after the takeover/buy out/whatever).

Bad ones are sold under loads of different 'brand' names, so you can never really tell what you're buying until it's too late.

Buying online makes it a lot easier because they normally mention the MID on the product page (if you're on a site that takes media seriously that is).

If you still have this problem after installing an up-to-date copy of Imgburn and make sure you are using good discs (I use Philips DVDs) you might take a look at a question I asked about this same sort of thing - empty discs after an apparently good burn.

Look at my reply to my own question at http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=16669

I'm not saying that it will fix your problem but it is a simple thing to try.

By the way, the drive I was having trouble with is also a TSSTcorp drive - maybe just a coincident but you never know.
