Copy data from hard drive to DVD

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am seeking to burn data from the hard drive to a "DVD+R DL" disc. I successfully made one disc but decided that rather than make a second disk immediately, I rebooted and repeated the procedure (obviously with a fresh DVD disc). Unfortunately, on this second occasion, when the disc was being verified, I got an "I/O Error!" and click "Retry" did not resolve the problem, so clearly I am now unable to trust that this second disc was properly made.

I am using an Asus Netbook with Windows 7 Starter, and Imgburn 2.5.4.0, with a

Samsung SE-S084F external DVD Writer, using Verbatim 8x DVD+R DL disks (required for this data burn of about 5.5 GB).

I used the "Write files/folders to disc" function.

Please could you let me know what may be wrong and how to avoid this intermittent occurrence.

Regards,

Robert333

OK, you edited the post with the log...

Laptop/slimline burners aren't a good choice when you burn Double Layer's.

You are using 8x rated media and your drive can burn that disc at max 6x.

Try 4x and then 3x to see if that produces a better burn.

Try to find 2.4x rated media MKM-001-00

Hello ISF Guru,

Thanks for your reply.

I have now installed ImgBurn 2.5.5.0.

Regarding the speeds you mention: Must I abandon the 8 x DL discs I have purchased, or can I regulate the speed from within ImgBurn?

If I can regulate the speed from ImgBurn, what is the setting that I should change?

Regards,

You can change the write speed in the Device tab on the right. There you will see the line (with the disc in the drive) Supported Write Speeds:

Only pick what's available. Try all, one by one.

If it manage to burn and verify OK at a lower speed it's alright, you don't have to abandon them.

In case it don't, you have to try the 2.4x version media MKM-001-00. It is more accepted by a variety of drives but seems is more harder to get them now.
