Logical unit not ready, Long write in progress

The software was working fine, then a few failed CD image writes led to this condition when trying to bring "NEC DVD+RW 1100A 10GE" ready ... "Logical unit not ready, Long write in progress" ... and used a few different blank CD-R with the same error message. The software is recognizing that CD-R media is present in the drive.

I can't reboot right now because of a running streaming program that would disconnect listeners. Does reset DMA force and require a reboot ? NEC Flash Utility and all other programs won't recognize either drive or media present in it (can't update driver), IMAPI service was stopped, started it but no change in fault conditions.
