Device Buffer never exceeds 96%?

Hi,

This is most likely not an Imgburn problem (great program, BTW), and I have done a bit of researching before hand, but I'm still a bit curious as to why this is happening.

Here's the issue

I just received a brand new Sony Optiarc AD-7260S, firmware 1.03, and already I'm noticing a peculiar problem.

When burning DVD+R DL (haven't tried regular DVDs yet) the device buffer never exceeds 96%, and will occasionally go to 6% for a second, then jump back up to 96%.

The Main buffer never dips below 100%.

I have installed the latest Intel controller drivers, and even tried switching to ElbyCDIO's interface, and still the same issue.

My burns have been coming out fine, but I'm just wondering why this is happening, and if possible, is there a way to make it use 100% buffer instead?

Thank you,

David

Different drives do different things with their buffer. Some stick at 100%, some stick at 80%.

Where it drops to a really low value, that's just WOPC kicking in.

So basically, don't worry about it, it's all perfectly normal.

Thanks for the fast response!

Alrighty then, I guess I'll end my quest here, seeing as that's just how the drive operates.

Just for giggles though, I have attached a log of a recent burn.

I think I'm using too cheap of a media.

Anywho, thanks again!

Keep up the great work,

David

Annoying though!

Not really, my old BenQ never quite filled in the device buffer and it ran from 40% to 98% all of the time with no bad burns associated with it. The device buffer simply does not I/O as fast as the data buffer that sends data to it and the device writes to the disc. It's just the way things operate.

Our buffers are completely emptying, momentarily slowing the burn so that it never quite reaches it's potential. There's no excuse for sticking slow / small buffer memory in drives of this nature, especially from a company like Sony. Thank god for BurnProof, and I stand by my "annoying"!

Same "issue" with my Optiarc 7260 and an Aone Plus disc that didn't even burned ok. Write speed 8x.
