I seem to be having multiple problems trying to burn a game. From reading other users threads, I think I need to try a different type of media, but I have burned games before with the current media I am attempting to use(Memorex). Any suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Problem: Attempting to burn a disc image to my DELL laptop DVD burner. When it starts to write, it gives:

Well for the most part notebook burners are crap when trying to burn DL media. Also just because you burned successfully, if you haven't verified your burns then how can you be really sure the burn was good?

Since you have crap media, it could be that some of the discs that you are trying now are bad. It happens, especially with Ritek +R DL, (yes your discs aren't really what they are either). I'm surprised that your discs are RITEK-S04-66, since usually Memorex discs are made by CMC-MAGNETICS even worse than Riteks but I digress on that issue.

Assuming that you have a few bad discs out of your spindle, go ahead and try another disc. Thing is in the long run, you will save yourself trouble and money if you go and get a proper burner (an internal burner), and get a USB 2.0 external adapter for it, and as for your media, buy the Verbatim (disc ID MKM-xxx-xx) discs.

The problem is that your drive is old (2006 is the latest firmware that's already installed) and don't like the new media, hence the only (2.4x) write speed supported shows, usualy there are more for that MID.

Cleaning the lens of the drive might help. Use a lens cleaning disc or manual.

Usualy Verbatim 2.4x (MKM-001-00) will decide if the burner is still alive, give it a shot.

If all fails Ricewind already recommended the solution for you.
