Stallone to Star in Sixth 'Rocky' Movie

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Yo Adrian! Rocky is planning another comeback. Fifteen years after starring in "Rocky V," Sylvester Stallone is reprising his role as the boxing champ in the sixth "Rocky" movie, publicist Michelle Bega said Monday.

The 59-year-old actor will write and direct "Rocky Balboa," which will begin shooting in Philadelphia and Las Vegas next year.

Stallone told the Daily Variety trade magazine the movie will focus on an aging, widowed Rocky who is reluctant to get back in the ring but ends up doing it "just to compete, not to win."

"I am drawing on a lot of my feelings that are in sync with many people's feelings about facing the last chapter of their lives and how they want it to be written," Stallone said.

Dan Taylor, president of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which is co-producing the film, said the movie focuses less on boxing and more on character.

"It's about self-examination, an opportunity to see what kind of person he is and act on it," Taylor said.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Talia Shire, who appeared in five previous "Rocky" films as the boxer's love interest, Adrian, will return in the sixth installment, said Stuart Herriot, a spokesman with Revolution Studios, which is co-producing the film.

"In the script, she did pass away, but it's unsure whether she might appear in a flashback or in older footage," Herriot said. "It's too early in the production to tell."

But, Herriot said, Burt Young is expected to return as Adrian's brother, Paulie.

Stallone wrote all the "Rocky" films and directed the second, third and fourth entries.

The first movie, released in 1976, won three Oscars, including best picture and best director for John G. Avildsen.

So, are they tipping the big secret for Rocky VI? That Adrian dies? Because, she was NOT written in the script for Rocky V as passing away at all. In fact, a character who HAD passed away actually MAKES an appearance in Rocky V. :D Come on, everyone knows it's Paulie who must die. The actor's getting too old to play the part and there aren't that many characters that Stallone can still axe off and have it 1.) impact the audience and 2.) not completely destroy the script. After Paulie, it will be that black bald guy who was Apollo's manager and then stepped into Mickey's shoes after the big 'fro bit the dust. Then... I dunno? The robot from III and IV? Drago?

Well, that's a bit harsh to lay on the doorstep of the first film. :) Especially from a first time writer and director, Rocky is an outstanding picture. Stallone, yes, should not have acted in the picture. But, otherwise, a very entertaining and highly creative, in terms of the same type of picture that had gone before, approach to a boxing film: go for a realistic approach. Even the first sequel was a good film as far as sequels go. It's only real problem is the predictable ending, one of the highlights that the first film avoided. In many ways, the sequel betters its original, but, definitely not in the ending department. Starting with Rocky III, though... sheesh!

First Blood, aka Rambo 1, is another strange example. The first film is well done, far better than you'd expect from its type of movie. Goes above the stereotypes you'd believe coming from the movie, given that it uses the subject of those same stereotypes of the time, e.g. disgruntled Vietnam vet comes home and loses his marbles. And, the film is saved from Stallone's acting once again ;) by being buoyed with performances from entirely capable actors. And, that's probably why Rambo II failed, and Rambo III would fail because it builds off that formula. By Rambo II, the entire film focus, even its title, is entirely on Rambo, thus, Stallone has to carry the film. And, he shouldn't. =))

Whatta ya mean, he's made some money though

Sure his acting started out a bit rocky and rambo'd along, sometimes over the top, but he is driven, got an oscar, made lots of tango and cash.

He is the specialist, the italian stallion, a rebel who has seen victory and his films have cliffhangers which lead you to daylight from the hands of assassins shaking their fists like capone strangling a cobra.

He had no place to hide in the shade wearing a single rhinestone in his lock up down paradise alley, threatened by the demolition man who shouts out eye see you and stop or my mom will shoot, along with my antz, leaving with farewell my lovely, i have to get carter away from the lords of flatbrush and into the hands of cop lan with backup from judge dredd or it will be spykids 3d game over for all of us.

Yes, The Party At Kitty And Studs was Stallone's first movie, was a hardcore porno flick, but was not immediately released. After Stallone became a star, it was heavily re-edited into a less than 60 minute piece of nonsense (In one scene, a mastiff appears and then disappears for no apparent reason because the scenes about the dog had to be edited out. Now, WHY they had to edit out the dog...) and finally released as The Italian Stallion. For all of this, Stallone received $200. But, there were fringe benefits.

I think alot of ppl will go to see this movie. I want to see it to see what happens in the end.

I saw Rocky V in theaters because Burgess Meredith was in it. (The film was nationally released in the US on his birthday that year, too, BTW.) Now that Burgess is dead, I don't think he'll be in it.

The first was interesting, didn't really like the second as it just seemed to be milking the fame of the first and then then the next couple were dire - for fucks sake are we really supposed to believe that a bloke training with cut logs in the winter conditions can beat another who is training with all the hitech equipment and lets not forget his reach must have been at least 12 longer than Rocky's

Sylvester Stallone to Revive Rambo Role

Rambo is back in business. Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role as gun-toting John Rambo in the upcoming "Rambo IV," said Ben Nedivi of Millennium Films, which is producing the project with Emmett/Furla Films.

The 59-year-old Stallone also intends to bring boxer Rocky Balboa out of retirement. He will write and direct "Rocky Balboa," the sixth film in that franchise, with shooting set to begin next year.

Anyone ever play that Rambo game for the NES? I did... I even owned it! :o Funny how for such a violent subject, Rambo, strangely, extracts his revenge at the end of the game by using his flaming arrows to launch Japanese text at the man who sent on his mission. It turns him into a frog.

Or played Rambo III in the arcades? :) I never could finish the final stage, though. It's just as preposterous as the movies: a dozen tanks, jeeps, helicopters, motorcycles, jets, and foot soldiers all have to be dispatched in one life.
