Imgburn only creating data disk (I think)

Recommended Posts

I've burned up about 5 blank DVD's now. I create an image to burn, use write mode but all it seems to me is that its burning the video file to the dvd disk as data and not playable in a dvd player. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I looked through all the guides and followed the iso format guide and it's not not working. Could it be that the video file I'm trying to burn to dvd is .mp4? Burning with DVDflick works but takes like 5 hours and Imgburn is burning the disk way too quickly to be a DVD disc. I've been burning CD-r's forever but I don't burn too many DVD's. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Can't really post a log file because I'm using my laptop to burn and my pc drive won't even recognize a blank dvd no matter what brand. I'm using PLAYO 1-16x DVD+r 4.7 gb discs. I saw a topic a few lines down about a similar problem but I can't reply to it.

Could it be that the video file I'm trying to burn to dvd is .mp4?

If you made an ISO of an mp4 file, and burned that expecting it to play in your dvd player then you wasted a few discs already.

Imgburn will not turn your .mp4 file into a DVD-Video disc containing the proper files/directories (VIDEO_TS dir. with IFO,BUP,VOB files).

You need to convert your .mp4 file to the proper DVD-Video format with DVDFlick. Once you have finished that and have your VIDEO_TS dir with the appropriate files, imgburn will burn that as a DVD-Video disc.

burning the disk way too quickly to be a DVD disc.

How fast or how slow you burn the disc is irrelevant. Just remember to verify your burn.

When I put in back in the PC and go to my computer and click the disk to open...theres the same .mp4 file I tried to make a DVD out of. Just the one single video file. nothing else. the physical disc is about half "burned". Looks like its just making a data disk to me. Log file helping at all?

No imgburn burns as is, it is your responsibility to have the files prepared in advance.

I don't know of any. Slow? Even on my old 1Ghz AMD Atholon it works rather decently. Recommended processor is a pentium 4, thats quite old. Try not to multitask when encoding though as that does take up resources.

If you are using your notebook to encode, perhaps consider doing that on a desktop if available. Thats all I can really say.

It really depends, I don't know what kind of system you have. I am guessing maybe half hour? I'm only basing that though on shrinking a DVD with DVDShrink, maybe an hour at the most I don't think it would be more than that though.

You can also speed up the encoding by changing some settings in DVDFlick by going to the project settings, and changing the encoding priority as well as the encoding profile. You can change it to the fastest if quality is not really an issue. Other than that you will just have to wait, or buy ConvertXtoDVD...

Looks like your image file is only about 1.8 gigabytes. I'm not an expert, but from what I seen, the main movie of most commercial quality DVDs that are say 1.5 hours or so take up almost all of a 4.7 gb single layer DVD. Whoever encoded the source you received must have used a setting to save time and disc space. I doubt even with the best equipment on your end, the quality will be anything close to DVD quality most of us are used to.

Any fun ideas on what to do with all the burned up useless discs? Also can anyone recommend a good affordable internal dvd rw drive under 300? I was in the drive section but theres just way too much information there for me to wrap my head around. lol. I don't plan on burning large quantities of dvds. just a few here and there.

I was having a few bad burns with my Pioneer drive and Verbatim DVD-R discs. I googled *DVD burner beige* and a Sony Optric Sata drive came up at Newegg for about $24 + tax and shipping. The total was $31 and I ordered it on Thursday a few days ago. I got it by UPS the next day! (no special extra shipping charge). Took 5 minutes to install. $31 is not much to solve my problems.
