Need help with write errors. pre-warning: Have crappy memorex

I want to preface by saying I've read the stickies, looked through at least 75 if not more threads before posting, and can't afford to buy any more CDs than the ones I have because I'm piss poor broke.

That said, I've had write errors while using Memorex 8.5 gb DVDs. I AM using backups, but the drive won't even write more than the early sectors.

I have OPC off, all the Overburn and other settings set the way the other threads advise.

My Drive is an ASUS DRW-24B3LT. I have went to ASUS' website and checked for updates, while installing new motherboard and chipset updates that may or  may not have been needed. I have used device manager to check online, and found the original CDs to check their viability(None work) for firmware.

I am an idiot in much of this, but I'm not going to waste your time without making sure that I've checked the ton of other threads, from all the websites with broken links to old software before hand.

With that said, here's my log:

From what I can tell there is no firmware more up to date than the one I have. However there's not much to indicate that, both on the official website AND anywhere else I've looked.

I have tried 2.4x which defaulted me to 4x, which I tried multiple times, before hearing a suggestion to try 8x. Considering only the beginning sectors are having issues it doesn't seem to be the issue. In fact I would guess the firmware myself if it hasn't ended up in dead ends everywhere.

Any suggestions and help still appreciated. Especially if you can prove the firmware thing wrong, because god it makes the most sense of the mess.

I don't understand why it's timing out after only 2 seconds. It's not a Windows error though (normally that's a 'semaphore timeout period has expired' issue) so it seems to be something internal to the drive. I would however like to see if you get the same problem on an Intel chipset based machine - or perhaps when the drive is connected via a decent USB -> SATA adapter.

Don't waste your time disabling 'Burnproof' within the program, re-enable it again.

hmm. This isn't an external, so I can't switch out of my AMD based drive. Also it's attached directly by high quality (to my knowledge) SATA cables.

I don't spend much time working on burning discs so I don't know much about the options, but I'll re-enable burnproof.

Give me some test parameters if you think that'll help for re-burning.
