unfaithful Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Whats the point of adware when people do not want it and do not want to install? I am genuinely interested
unfaithful Posted November 18, 2013 Author Posted November 18, 2013 no reply to this o r my other question
cornholio7 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 let's take java as an example. it offers ask toolbar bundled with the installer that was bundled with the last version of imgburn and everyone moaned about that too, because there is a support forum where you can complain about a free product. there is an opt out from the bundled software in the current version, if you click custom on the install, you can choose not to install the bundled software. whether you want the adware in the installer or not, isn't really anyones call than Lightning_UK's, as it is his, and i would assume he has to get some form of revenue to keep the forum alive and buy drives and media for testing. it all costs money, and at the end of the day, imgburn isn't his day job.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 People don't *want* adverts every 10 minutes during tv shows but this the world we live in. Companies want to advertise their software and make people aware of it. Developers are always happy to make a bit of extra cash. SweetLabs Inc (creators of the OpenCandy platform) basically just sell advertising space within a program installer and compensate the developer of that software accordingly. The software you're offered changes, as does the design of the offer screens. There's always a way to opt out though.

unfaithful Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 But what good if no one wants it? What % of people, who are aware of ad ware, would install the open candy? Sorry posted this in wrong place first
