Have a Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows XP. Everytime I insert a blank DVD, it says Device Not Ready (Logical unit is in process of becoming ready) then reads (No reference position found). I've tried both Maxell DVD-R & Memorex DVD+R. In the Forum it says I probably need new Firmware & better disks. Does new Firmware apply to a Laptop? I'm a computer novice & need all the help I can get!

Welcome to ImgBurn Forum!

Yes, it does apply to a laptop.

What drive do you have? Copy and paste the info from the top right corner of the app in Write mode.

As well, look at the Update Your Firmware link in my signature.

Change your media to Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens.

I had to laugh at first. Not that I'm making fun here. Just that when I first read "My logical unit" I had some purient ideas there at first. Then, I remembered the logical unit in process of becoming ready dialog.

I saw somewhere the latest firmware for this drive is B103, but for the life of me I can't find it. Not on DB or RPC-1 It's a fairly new drive, right?

Cornholio7 is correct. This unit does not write DVDs, does it? Look in Tools --> Drive --> Capabilities

Depends what you want to do - if you're looking to write to blank DVDs you will need to change the drive. If you're looking to play films etc but still see that problem then you can try a firmware update at www.rpc1.org.
