IMG shows success, but disc won't play

Morning,

I have attempted to burn a BD-SL. IMG logs show successful, I confirm image on the disc under "properties". When I attempt to play in computer or stand alone BD player, the menus for the project will play, but the video will not.

Appreciate any help you can give. Been using IMG for year and never had issues until now.

Thanks

Most likely in a situation like this, the problem is with the authoring software.  It didn't generate properly playable contents.

Do you have an actual BDMV folder on your hard disk where the BD was generated?  If so, try playing that folder in a software player on your PC.  If it still doesn't play properly, it wasn't authored correctly.

Have you changed the type of BD-R you've been using?  I've never heard of Disc ID: OTCBDR-002-000 so it may be a cheap type of media.  If you've always been using it, then you wouldn't care about that.

Been using these particular brand of discs for couple years....RiData BD-R  4x. I always try and do a test brun w/ a Varbatium BD-RE_-SL 2x first to make sure it looks good.

Video "file?"  Only one file?  Then there's probably something wrong somewhere with the encoder because BDMV should contain multiple files, unless it's a really small video you've created.

All in all, it seems there's a problem with your encoding software on this particular project.  First, it created a BD that only loads menus.  And now you can't get audio to play back.  There's something wrong with the encoder or the player you're using doesn't support that audio codec, so you're getting silence on playback.

No screen shot was apparently attached, but I don't think I need one at this point.

Trying creating a new image in Build mode in ImgBurn, importing the BDMV folder and the CERTIFICATE folder if it exists.  Basically, drag and drop all folders your encoder created.  Create this image and burn it to a BD-RE for testing.  See if it plays alright when ImgBurn makes the image.  Check you get audio in the movie, too.  If it still doesn't play right or there's no audio, the fault is most likely in the encoder.

You could also try mounting the image ImgBurn creates and see if it plays in a software player.  If it plays in a software player as a mounted virtual drive but doesn't when you play the disc from your BD drive, your drive is probably at fault.  You'll know the image is good and the authoring software isn't the culprit.  So, the only remaining suspect is the drive.

Hi Guys. Disregard the part about NO audio. I was a total nit wit and had didn't realize I had muted the speakers. Still have the issue of video won't play back.

Happens to us all.  I was converting an audio tape and there was no sound.  So, I thought the tape was blank for some reason.  After 28 minutes of converting, I stopped it and checked the MP3 only to find there was audio.  What had happened was, I had connected the earphone jack to a specially designed setup to convert earphone jacks to VCR input.  And I had muted the TV the entire time, resulting in no audio, of course.

Ok... so ck this out... I have an old version of Nero (12). I tried burning the project using it. Project goes through and I see a note at the end of the log, showing burned successfully. Unable to close. What would keep this program or Nero from being able to close/finalize?

If that's in a Nero log, you'll have to ask Nero that.  In the ImgBurn log you posted earlier, there doesn't appear to be anything about being unable to close, so it's beyond the scope of this forum.  But, I will say this, Nero does some unconventional things when it comes to burns.  For instance, with unformatted DVD rewritable media, it doesn't properly fully format them.

i am having the same problem as you, dvd menu shows but the dvd wont play in a standalone dvd player or in my pc dvd player.the dvd folder if i open it up the video files in it play fine but when i burn them using img they dont play in the dvd, this is how i know its img's fault. also it shows no error when i am done burning i even do a verify and still it shows it was successful but when i try and play the dvd it only shows the menu and clicking play does nothing.

If it plays from a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive, but not from a disc you insert in your PC's optical drive, it could be the disc contents simply aren't being recognized as something that can play.  This would be the fault of your drive or the discs you're using, not ImgBurn.  For instance, CMC media, the cheapest stuff out there, will often times complete burns and verifies with no errors, but their read compatibility with DVD players is so poor the device does not recognize anything is inserted.

In your case, post a Log from a disc that doesn't play and we can go from there.  In the meantime, insert a disc that doesn't play in a PC drive and open its root directory contents in File Explorer.  Make sure VIDEO_TS is in the root directory.  In VIDEO_TS, make sure there's a VIDEO_TS.IFO file.  Try double clicking on it or loading it in your preferred DVD playback software and see if it plays.

When you say the files play on your PC, are you playing VIDEO_TS.IFO or loading each VOB to see if they work?  VIDEO_TS.IFO will load the menus whereas VOB's are guaranteed to be menu VOB's.

Never heard of a BE12LU38 from LG, so I can't comment on its effectiveness.

You can rule out if it is ImgBurn that's the culprit, though it's highly unlikely, by creating a DVD Video with this VIDEO_TS in another application and see if the DVD it burns plays.

i play the vob files from the dvd after i burned it, they play fine but the dvd itself wont play from the menu. i use avs video comnverter to make my video_ts folder to burn it on img.since there is nothing wrong with the disc im sure its imgburn causing it to not play.looks like im going to have to just play everything from usb sticks now because im just wasting discs and money

You can't assume that.  It sounds like you're playing the VOB's and not the VIDEO.IFO.  This means, most likely, you will never encounter the menus and you can't tell if the menus were corrupt to begin with when created by the converter.  Play the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and see if you can get playable menus on your PC.   Play both the VIDEO_TS.IFO file from the DVD and from your HDD.  If it works on your HDD copy but not on the DVD copy, then something is going wrong when the files are put on the DVD or being read from the DVD by the drive.  But that would be down to the DVD burner, not the software burning it.

i do encounter the menus. the menus show up,just when i click play nothing happens.and there is nothing wrong with my dvd drive my dvd burner is brand new, and it burns fine.i tried using other burners and i get the same result so i know its not the burner, the video_ts files play on both my hdd and my dvd copy so it burns them to the dvd fine. just for some reason it wont play in any dvd player after i burn it. amazing how im not the only one experiencing this problem yet you guys dont have a clue what is the cause of this

Well, the next step would be trying something other than ImgBurn to burn with, if you're that sure you know it's ImgBurn's fault.  You've tried different drives, but get the same results.  You're probably using ImgBurn with all these drives, so that is a common factor.  BUT, have you tried using a different computer?  Copying an ISO to another computer with its own DVD burner and seeing if you get the same results.  IF you do, then you need to try something like Nero or Cyberlink or UltraISO, or possibly Alcohol 52%.  IF you get the same results, you know it's not ImgBurn.  Since you've tried different drives, there must be something in your PC that is causing incorrect writing to the drive.  Or reading from it.

Oh, one test you could try.  Take a copy of this DVD you've burned in ImgBurn on a drive you're having trouble with and, in File Explorer, copy the VIDEO_TS folder, its entire contents, to a temporary location on your HDD.  See if you get the same results playing back the VIDEO_TS.IFO this way.  If you do, then 1.) the contents were incorrectly written to the DVD or 2.) the contents are being incorrectly read FROM the DVD.  It's hard to troubleshoot which it would be, though.
