Odd Playstation read behavior

I'm getting unusual behavior reading Playstation CD's.

 

What happens is for 2 and a half minutes, they read at regular speed, then drop to 2x and stay at 2x, save for an initial burst of speed with 1 minute remaining before dropping back again to 2x, resulting in 20 minute image file creation on large discs.

 

It's done this on more than 5 games, so it appears to do it on all.

 

I've powered off the device, restarted the PC, and powered the device back on.  Same results.

 

I read an Audio CD image I had imaged about 2 weeks ago with normal read speeds and it still read at the proper speed.  I can also red Mixed Mode CD's at regular speed.  I created a near full 700 MB CD of just data, burned it to CD-R, and read it back to an image file; it read at normal speed.  So, this only happens on Playstation game discs.

 

Now, I can't even recall the last time I read a Playstation game disc to an image in ImgBurn, so it's been years, probably.  Maybe on the WH16NS60, this is normal behavior.
