I have seen other post regarding this issue and it was recommended to update the driver, clean the DVD, or replace the drive.

Nevertheless, I have included the log file in case a different cause is spotted (personal data replaced with ***):

Note that I tried twice to burn the DVD and both times it failed with the same error. DVD's are Verbatim DVD+R DL. I had no issues burning a Memorex DVD+R SL (single layer) a few days ago, so I'm thinking problem is unique to burning DL DVD's.

Thanks in advance for any assistance. Would be happy to post any additional log files.

When you said you replaced the drive, did you replace it with the SAME drive?  The GH24NSC0?  IF you tried that, try replacing it with another make and model.  If it's a slim drive, that could be the case.  They're generally unreliable.  MKM media is the only reliable DVD+R DL out there, so it would seem your drive just doesn't like them.  You could try checking for a firmware update and see if that helps.  In Write mode, right click on the GH24NSC0 drive and choose the check for firmware update option at the bottom of the context menu.  Updated firmware might have a more up to date write strategy that may address the issue.

You're probably right on track with the problem being unique to DL media.  When you exceed more than 1 layer, for each layer you add (Up to 4 on BD.) you effectively double the chances of issues.

Thank you for lending a hand. Sorry, when I said:

I meant that this was what was recommended to other people who had this issue. I have not performed any of these steps as I thought the log file might point to something else. Not sure what qualifies as a slim drive but the drive takes up a regular bay and the measurement of the edge of the tray that comes out is 5.25 inches by 1.25 inches high.  The make is LG and has M. DISC written on it. Followed your suggestion and seems the driver is up to date: image.png.28052b2e03d02d51ac91f15381133011.png

Now that I think about it, I do believe you had said you'd only found those as suggestions and hadn't tried them yourself.

The best way to tell if a drive is a slim or not is to use the Eject and Load buttons in ImgBurn.  Eject will work on slim drives, but Load won't.

Actually, the easiest way to tell was by my simply doing a search for GH24NSC0.  :) It's not a slim model.  It's a half height bay.  Those large size, full model are known as half heights.  5.25" drives are half height.

I also notice it's an LG.  LG can be pretty particular.  For instance, the WH16NS40 BD drive won't properly write to BD DL media but the NS60 does.  That's why I use the NS60.  I don't use DVD drives alone anymore.  And I put the NS60's in VanTech USB 3 enclosures since my PC's no longer have half height bays.  Dell no longer uses them in the XPS line of Desktop PC's.

Thank you again for taking the time out of your day to help.

I noticed the lines:

I 21:05:40 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x
...
W 21:05:40 Write Speed Miscompare! - MODE SENSE: 2,770 KB/s (2x), GET PERFORMANCE: 3,324 KB/s (2.4x)
I 21:05:40 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 3,324 KB/s (2.4x)

Is it worth trying to set the write speed to 2x instead of AWS?

The DVD's are 15 years old, but I expect that shouldn't be an issue. I tried burning a third DVD and got much further, but it got hung up trying to read a bunch of sectors in the final stages. It's just that nearly 50 of these DVD's, although back in the day, it probably cost me about $60 or so for the 50 pack so not the end of the world.

I could try purchasing a small pack of Memorex DVD +R DL disks and see if those work? Or alternatively I could just stick with the single layer discs and put a bit less content on them.

Thank you again.

UPDATE: I tried burning a fourth time on an identical DL DVD and it burned flawlessly.

Here's what I did differently:

1) I rebooted my computer

2) I burned at 2x speed instead of AWS

So it's either setting the write speed to 2x did the trick, or the fact that I rebooted my computer, or that I just happened to get a higher quality more cooperative DVD. I do have 2 different packs of the same DVD+R DL Verbatim DVD's, a 20-pack and a 50-pack. Over the years, I would take one out randomly from one of the two packs. Yesterday I combined them all together into the 50-pack case. Maybe one batch is good and the other isn't.

Anyone, happy that I got it to work. Thanks again for the help.

Reducing burn speed by 0.4x probably wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

You'd be surprised at how many issues on computers can be fixed by simply trying to restart the PC first.

However, in this case, I would doubt it's either of those 2 things that made a difference, but, then again, I can't say anything else that would have.

As for the Memorex DVD+R DL, avoid those like the plague.  They will be CMC Magentics media, which makes the worst optical discs out there.  The only reliable DVD+R DL are the Verbatim DataLife Plus AZO MKM media made by Mitsubishi.
