IMG Burn Help Needed

Topster

Recommended Posts

New to burning, so please excuse any stupid statements. Tried to burn a copy disc. IMG started up and the first problem was he wanted to format a disc that had already been formatted. I let it reformat the disc. IMG then started his program and ran to completion. I took the new disc and put it into my Plextor PX-740A drive and nothing. I double click on it and I get the message "Please insert disc into drive G". I have tried this on my other CD drive which is my F drive, TSH 49B and get the same thing. I tried different types of disc and get the same results no matter which drive I use as master or slave. It almost seems that IMG is not formatting the disc? Any attempt to open the disc in any way gets the same "Please insert a disc". I could understand problems with 1 drive or one type of cd, but all types cds? Any help would be great as I really would like to stop making coasters some time today.

It is almost like the disc is never formatted for the system to see it. I can see the new tracks on the disc, so he is burning something, but it seems the format is the problem. I tried pre formatting the disc and that only added time as IMG would not do anything because of data on the disc. DMA is allowed on both drives. Thanks for any help.

Here is a logfile. In both cases I received the same error message when I tried to use the disc. Machine told me to insert a disc. The disc was in. The system could not see the disc.

Sorry about the logfile screwup.......

Again, I used different types of disc and got the same problem no matter which drive I used.

try some different cdrw if you can.

does it burn OK if you just use a normal CDR

go in to imgburn settings and press defaults and try again with your cdrw, seems like your writer does not like the type of cdrw you got though

I tried CDRs, CDRWs, of Memorex, Fujiflim, Staples, TDK. And these disc worked OK before. It think Nero may be the trouble as I had no problems before I went to 7.5.1.1 Of course I did removes and clean reinstalls and still no change. Could it be the INCD in Nero that is causing all the problems?

Again, sorry if I screwed up about the log file. :whistling:

Below is the latest log file and this time with DVD disc. Same thing happens, completes the burn and when I try to use the disc, I get "Please insert a disc into F drive. I can see where he worte info but again, he doesn't seem to see the disc even though he worte the info. I tried it in other drive and get the same thing. I am at a lost as to what to try next. DMA is allowed on all drives, no check marks on CD record on record tab of either drives.

Tried to burn a DVD-R. IMG completed with no problems. When I went to read the disc by clicking on it, I received the same message. Please Insert a disc into the G drive. I can see the write area on the disk, but system cannot "see the disk". I had removed Nero 7 Ultra and INCD. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? I am getting really disgusted at the whole burning thing. I have wasted at least 2 days trying to get this problem resolved. Any response would be great. Thanks in adavance

Topster, first off there is new firmware for your plextor:

Plextor 740 A

Secondly, those Riteks your using are iffy discs. As of late, the ritek quality has fallen by the wayside. Verbatim are the way to go -R for SL and +R for DL. Taio Yudens are also excellent media if you can readily find them. :)

RITEKF1 discs are useless. You'd do well to get some different ones.

That image is CD size anyway, how comes you're burning it to a DVD?

You could also check and see if there are any firmware updates available for your drive.

Finally, next time you burn something, tell ImgBurn to 'Verify' the burnt disc too - it's just a little checkbox on the main screen.

If it burns and verifies ok, there's no reason for other programs to not see the data - unless the image was screwed up in the first place.

Maybe Windows just isn't refreshing properly?

Thanks for the answers and suggestions. I will get the update and install it. I use DVDs cause I have a lot of them laying around. I thought they would be better than a CD disk. I also will get into the info on disk quality. I would thow all the junk out if that turns out to be the problem, but I have tried Fuji, Sony, TDK, Staples, and nothing works. The confusing part is if I enable CD recording in the prop box for the drives, I can drop files and write to them with no problem, take them out and re-tray them and the system sees them with no problem and all the files are written. CDs or DVDs. That is the strange part. I am going to take some og the coasters to another machine and see if they can be read there.

Thanks again for the help and directions. Glad there are some real knowledgable people here....

Sorry for takeng so long to get back, but with testing of drives with any and all types of my disk colletion, I found what appeares to be 2 problems.

1: Bad Nero7Ultra update. I not only had trouble with IMG, but also doing any type of disk writing, both CD and DVD. I did a clean removal using all of the clean tools, installed my issue of 7 and than upgraded to newest version.

2: I than did updates on the burner software and installed the lastest drivers.

3: Tried all my coasters in another machine which doesn't have any Nero etc on and most were NFG. Those formatted with CDFS and UDF file structure worked OK in other machine and when put in machine with the updates, systen could and would now read then. Any other disk that I supposely made with Nero were still bad, no format id.

4: I then tried the ISO file and using some tools which I found on here and other sites determined that the ISO file I was sent was no good. I kept trying to burn a corrupted file, which was part of the problem

Thanks to everone here for their help and suggestions. Is there anyplace with a known good IMG file I can dowm load and convert to a ISO file and try to burn?

Thanks again for the help... :)

You could use the build mode of ImgBurn to create an ISO containing files that you know are good (check out the build mode guide and select Image File as the output mode).

Thanks for the idea. Will try that......
