DVD won't play on DVD player ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am archiving my family videos using Nero so I have nice menus and chapters, I wrote out the Nero project to Hard drive (I believe it is called a image file) this process makes a folder called a VIDEO_TS and in this folder are .BUP .IFO .VOB files. Using Image burn I write these files to a DVD+R DL (project it 7.50GB) everything seems to work perfectly and I can watch these DVDs with Windows Media Player but my DVD player won't play the DVD. ? !

I know that my DVD player will read these DVD+R DL disc's as it has read them before.

Does Nero need to make another file so the DVD player will be able to read it or does ImgBurn need a special option turned on for this to work ?

Any ideas to solve this problem would be very helpful.

Thank you.

Justin.

Welcome to ImgBurn Forum Justin.

I'd start by popping the drive into an IDE port inside the PC, rather than on a firewire port and getting rid of the DVD-ROM/CD writer which is inside the PC. If you must burn externally, slow the speed to 1x.

Remember to use bitsetting.

You may like to test the disk in DVDInfoPro or Ner0 CDSpeed.

... this process makes a folder called a VIDEO_TS and in this folder are .BUP .IFO .VOB files. Using Image burn I write these files to a DVD+R DL (project it 7.50GB) everything seems to work perfectly and I can watch these DVDs with Windows Media Player but my DVD player won't play the DVD. ? !

I'm sorry if this is too obvious, but when you burn the disc, do you just select the VIDEO_TS folder with Imgburn and add the whole folder, or do you select the individual files? A proper DVD must have the files in a VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD. If I'm not explaining this clearly, put a DVD in your computer and look at how the files are arranged: there is a VIDEO_TS folder, and maybe an AUDIO_TS folder. All the .vob and .ifo files etc are in the VIDEO_TS folder.

If you were trying to burn a big dual-layer DVD, then Imgburn should have popped up and asked you where you wanted the layer break, and will update the ifo files appropriately.

You are using the oldest firmware, amazing that it worked at all

BYX5, but don't try 4X dl burning

wait a minute, it didn't get this part right?

Media Type: DVD+RW (Disc ID: MKM-001-00)

Thanks for writing back, I have updated my firmware what advantages will this give ?

The more important question is which media type should I have selected ? considering I am writing to a DVD+R DL

these are the options I am given by imgburn:

CD-RW

DVD-RW

DVD+RW

DVD-RAM

BD-RE

HD DVD-RW

HD DVD-RAM

Which one should I have picked for my media ?

I started this thread saying that my "DVD won't play on DVD player ?" Well I stand corrected I have since tryed to play the same DVD again it it now works fine, so it goes to show you need to check things multiple times before you ask for help.

Les

I burn dv5's at 8x all the time using firewire with an external drive with no problems whatsoever

it plays with dual layer at 2.4x as well
