ImgBurn locks up at the "Getting Disk Management Information" using ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter on GSA-4120B with the latest RPC1 firmware after inserting my blank DVD-R. The CD Drive keeps flashing forever, and the computer becomes unstable. I am unable to close imgBurn (stays at terminating thread) and when forcing an exit in the task manager (close process tree) it doesn't close, however the window does...but it still remains in the process list and the drive continues to flash. I am also unable to start any other programs or shut-down / restart as the system becomes unstable. I have to hard reset the computer. I havent used imgburn / dvd decrypter in a while, but the error applies to both programs. EDIT: I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 with all the latest updates on an intel XBX2 mobo. volvofl10 Posted October 28, 2008 Share Posted October 28, 2008 a 4120b is quite an old drive now, try cleaning the lense in the drive, if that dont cure it ,then flash the drive back to firmware version A116 , that was much more stable than A117 EDIT and obviously make sure the media is clean, use Isopropyl alcochol to clean it Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I still think the bug of imgburn locking up the computer needs to be corrected however. What do you think of the quality of lazer (the brand)? LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 28, 2008 Share Posted October 28, 2008 It's not a bug, it's just your machine / drive doesn't do what it's meant to. As has been pointed out, your drive is old and has problems of its own. Commands should either work or be rejected, hanging really isn't my problem and all I end up doing is implementing workarounds for buggy drives. How about the answer to my question from earlier? Can you also please tell me if it does the same thing when you put in a disc you've already burnt? Back to the empty disc... once it has finally been initialised (even if it takes a few hours), please copy + paste the disc info text from the panel on the right so I can see what the drive is returning and why it doesn't think the disc is empty. What happens with a decent brand of media , like verbatim, taiyo yuden ect ect I think LUK meant a disc that the LG drive in the desktop has already burnt, not a disc the laptop has burnt ]Can you also please tell me if it does the same thing when you put in a disc you've already burnt? Posted October 28, 2008 Share Posted October 28, 2008 So if Verbatims burn in it ok, are you saything that the 'Recording Management Area Information' problem only occurs when you have a certain type/brand of disc in the drive? i.e. You can insert a blank Verbatim and it won't hang/pause as ImgBurn queries the drive to obtain certain info about the disc? I can see from the disc info above that it doesn't appear to have an issue returning this info on a burnt Verbatim disc. Yes hang only occurred for these Lazer brand disks (and possibly others, but have never come across any other brand that does this) I can see from the disc info above that it doesn't appear to have an issue returning this info on a burnt Verbatim disc. Recording Management Area Information:TEAC TCJKA2271120 DVD+-RW DVW28SLC That disk, was in fact the lazer brand disk. It can read them fine (with no hang). It only hangs on blank media in IMGburn In all the tests i posted above, i used the lazer disks. I have never had a problem with Verbatim in the drive. In summary of all my posts: A blank lazer disk hung in the LG drive. I posted the info of this disk from the other DVD drive that worked with the lazer disk. I then let the thing hang in the LG drive for 1.5 hours and posted the info from the LG drive when it had finished hanging (and displayed disk not empty). I then used the disk to burn an image using the other DVD drive that worked with the lazer disk. I then inserted this burnt disk into the LG drive and posted the info. I guess they're just fakes (or very low quality and Verbatim threw them away) and that's why the drive is complaining with those disc and not any others.
