  1. No, we haven't been through this even once let alone a million times! I've not heard of this but thanks for the info anyway. It clears up a lot of things. As for "The drivers are just a means of getting data from and sending data to the drive" if they are corrupt or incorrect from MS or the drive manufacturer couldn't that cause the problems I'm having? Maybe a FAQ on burners and OS's would be helpful?
  2. Donloading the Ubuntu Live CD now. It sounds like a good CD to have around. Thanks for the info on it. Why would imageburn report the drives as RAID when RAID has never been enabled? I'm thinking that because the drives are reported as being RAID that is why I'm having problems burning.
  3. It certainly knows it's found 2 burners so I don't see why it wouldn't show up. It just looks like the drive is having trouble burning to some of the discs. I never rate rewritables very highly, they often fail. What I'd do is try with some decent Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden media. (If possible, DVD+R Verbs or DVD-R Taiyo Yuden) For CD's, I'd only ever use Taiyo Yuden now. This doesn't explain why the burner worked just fine with diff media brands for quite some time or why imageburn sees the burners as RAID while device manager doesn't report them as RAID. I've had the same problem with Verbatim disk, both DVD-R and CD-R. I really believe it's something in windows 7, posiably caused by a windows update?
  4. Uninstalled everything Nvidia ask you suggested and it was reinstalled on boot. DVD drives still seen as RAID in imageburn but not in device manager. Here are the logs from my burns with the disk that I have. I also tried a couple of imation DVD-RWs and a Sony DVD-RW but the optiarc drive wouldn't see them, although they work fine on my xp system. Another note of interest is that imageburn doesn't see the Drive 2 - Info: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24LS50 YP01 (D:) (RAID) for writing noted in the log. Should imageburn be reinstalled to see it, as I just installed that drive. OKay, here's the logs in order in burns: CD-RW burn: I 15:07:42 ImgBurn Version 2.5.1.0 started! 5. Any way to replace Nvida's RAID drivers to just good old SATA drivers? Guess there's no way to replace the BIOS for one without RAID? Just had a thought: Although imageburn reports the drives as RAID and windows device manager doesn't ( or would it?) could my bruning problem lie somewhere else?
  6. Nope, didn't hang in test mode with either CD-R or DVD-R. Checked BIOS again and RAID is still disabled. Installed a LG Super Multi 24x I had and it's reported by imageburn as RAID also. After enabling RAID in BIOS it come up and wanted me to set an array. At that point I got out of it, mainly cause I don't know anything about raid. Went back into BIOS, disabled RAID and set sata 1 n 2 (the DVD drives) back to sata instead of RAID. Both DVD drives are still showing RAID in imageburn. Being new to imageburn I have to ask, could imageburn be reporting them wrong? Other than the BIOS, what sets RAID on these drives?
  7. Rather not do that as I understand that I'll lose everything on the drive when I disable raid again. I don't like or need raid, that's why it's never been enabled. On boot the black screen says that raid is disabled. BTW, is there a registry value that sets this drive to raid that I could change?
  8. Installed that driver package, no joy, still reported by imageburn as a RAID drive. I've tried differant burn speeds as low as 1 but still the same, coasters!
  9. Yep, BIOS is set to SATA and RAID is not active (disabled) as it always has been. That's what's so confusing about this drive being reported as RAID.
  10. Yes, just done that and it's still the same. It never has it as RAID in the device manager, should it or would it?
  11. Motherboard: SMBios version 2.5 Dell Inc 0PP150 A00 Bios: Dell Inc. 1.0.13 05/05/2009 taille: 1024Kb Chipset: North bridge: NVIDIA C55 South bridge: NVIDIA nForce 410/430 (MCP51)
  12. Still at a loss. I've updated everything on the site u gave me http://www.ma-config.com/ including BIOS. I've unpluged the dvd drive after uninstalling it from device manager and it is still reported as RAID in imageburn.
  13. I looked at the connections on the motherboard and the DVD drive is connected to a SATA connection and in BIOS it's set as sata also. Although the MB has RAID capability it is not turned on nor never has been. Why would the DVD drive be reported as being RAID when RAID was never setup on the computer? Now I am confused! lol Could it be something corrupt in the BIOS? There is an update to the BIOS, should I flash it? Thx for all your help!
  14. Now I'm really confused???? Although RAID is available it's not turned on. I've added another drive some time ago but haven't touched the DVD drive or it's connections, yet it's reported in the log as being on RAID. I'm not versed in RAID so any help getting it off RAID will be appreciated.
